basically what everyone else said, just another white goods manufacturer now who has pimped out their M division to an embarrassing degree and has chosen a future of more profit with less to be proud of. Fair enough, but not for me.
Is there a mass market car company that you think behaves differently? And if it did, could it survive? Not having a snark, just feeling as if Iam now a niche market that is no longer viable. What I really want from BMW is a brand new E39 5-series - not the equivalent of, but literally a brand new E39 shell, suspension and interior - with the current 335 / 535 turbo six and choice of six-speed manual or the eight-speed slushmatic.
But I think I am going to have to build my own.

As long as this creates revenue to create some proper BMWs, I don't care what they make.
I would agree with that (same with Porsche and the new Cayman basically funded by selling SUVs) but I'm not really seeing any of what I regard as "real BMWs" at all in the new models, which is why I keep buying old ones. The i8 might be good. Let's hope so
I like BMW's.
My wife has a bad back from a ski injury and olympic shenanigans leaping off the top of the wardrobe, so she prefers a higher driving position and refuses to drive cars that are too low down and force the legs to be straighter.
So she's gonna want one of these.
Fine by me.

I understand the point of a vehicle that can get along rough, unpaved roads etc. etc. and at the same time is "sporty" to drive (especially in countries like China and Russia where although most of the big cities are concrete jungles, there are many places where you'd appreciate the extra clearance & AWD)...but does it have to look like this? The original X5 is a million times better looking.
On another note; it's a shame JLR won't shoehorn their 3.0-litre sixes (petrol & diesel) into the Evoque.

Ignoring the "ugly stick" comments which I truly don't understand, the X6 is a remarkable car. It seems to suffer from JC not liking it and everyone jumping on the same bandwagon. The rear window may slope, but so do all coupes. If viewed as a coupe with superb visibility, great handling and obscene power it just makes sense.
But it's NOT A COUPE.Edited by Simond S on Thursday 6th March 10:40
