Friend had his new Audi S3 stolen off his drive in Yeovil last night. Last Gps tracking and road side cameras had it at junction 14 on the M5 at 0230 this morning. If anyone sees it please let the police know.

How did they get the keys, or are the new Audi's suffering BMW syndrome?

No GPS tracking I've been told. It was just the ANPR cameras that picked it up.

Audi's, BMW, Ford, Mercedes and Range Rovers are all brands and models that are seeing cars being taken without keys.

Speaking as someone that had grief from thieving scumbags trying to steal my Cosworth 20+ years ago I wouldn't sleep easy leaving a car like that on the drive overnight. I know it shouldn't be like this but sadly it's a low priority for the Police.

Why the manufacturers leave the odb port powered on all the time is madness and allows this crime spree to continue.

It is a simple change to make this live only when the ignition is on and reduce the problem instantly. There is obviously some manufacturing need for it but everyone else pays the price for it.

Why wouldn't they stick false plates on if they're driving on main roads? confused

This is effectively what put me off buying a new car. I was in the market for a (brand) new car, preferably a BMW. My budget was just shy of £50k.

As much as I wanted to buy the car, i didn't see the point if it was so easy to steal with the manufacturer themselves denying all knowledge. Why spend that kind of money to only have some fker take it?

"But you'll get it back/get a replacement etc" it's just not the same, plus the insurance co. would use any excuse to rape me financially: "car stolen, sir? That's extra £££ on your premium".

Instead, I built a big extension to my house. Like to see those thieving fkers steal that!

Oh dear. Doesn't say anywhere it was a keyless theft though.

Because how would they fault find if the car won't power up?

I don't really understand these threads when it's about new generic cars. Presuming he has gap insurance (crazy not to on a new car) then why you would want it back is beyond me.

By putting the key in the ignition and turning it on but without the engine running I.e. switched live, exactly how my 2005 audi works. Not exactly what I would call difficult or complicated but then again for some car dealers it might be a bit much....

It really is just lazy design or a cost reduction, they can save money by using one less bit of wire but have created a crime spree we all have to pay for.
