You're making the oft repeated mistake of taking the thread title far too literally and attempting to police the content based on that mistake.

Yes but it helps if they also display the Blue Badge to support the legitimate use of the space. In this case there isn't one visible leading to the inference they're not entitled breaching the parking conditions and thus denying a disabled person a space. Bad form.

I don't agree with that, it's called Supercars not Hot Hatches or Cars I like!

I think the mistake is posting a Hot Hatch in a Supercar thread rather than posting in the correct forum.

And all I said was Focus RS is not a supercar, I didn't ask for it be removed.

I put my opinion forward which I thought was the point of a forum.

I leave policing for my day job!

Sorry, but in this instance you are incorrect. This has been repeated many times over in each volume and has even been conformed by the thread starter more than once. Any vehicle of interest or outside the perceived norm has a place on here.

Don't worry, I've been chastised by several others for this.

I'm not being allowed to forget about it, am I?!

Ok I'm wasn't looking for an argument, maybe the title should say 'Desirable cars'

I made the mistake of thinking if it said Supercars then that's what should be posted.

I'm off to post a picture of a dog in cat forum wink

Hey, do you remember that time when you said that disabled people can't drive nice cars?

Well, it wouldn't be an internet forum without some Chinese Whisper style word twisting now, would it?

Can we not just change the bloody title!? It's the same discussion every time.

"Saw this interesting car today"
"Bloody hell, can't be many of those around"
"Erm, actually, that's not a supercar"
"It doesn't have to be a supercar, 'some rarities' are allowed"
"No, it means 'supercars, some of which are rarities' actually"
"You're wrong"
"Can we not just change the bloody title?!?"

...repeat ad nauseum.

Or start a second thread " interesting and unusual cars I've seen on my travels"
There's no point, there would still be similar discussion.

Focus RS fast and very nice - Yes.

Focus RS Supercar - No
we're at vol 6 now; you're pissing in the wind. This is basically just "cool cars we've seen", which is fine with just about everyone.
I wasn't saying remove it, just saying it's not what I would call a Supercar. No offence intended smile
don't worry, it comes up a lot!

I saw a Triumph Acclaim yesterday, rare as hens teeth but I wouldn't have the gall to post it on this thread

I saw an Aston V8 Vantage as well, not posting that either. To my mind neither are supercars and the Aston is pretty common too wink

You either have a long memory, or.......you've inadvertently touched on one of the early schisms from the thread!

A nicely patina'd Acclaim - think it was Muswell Hill - caught my eye and I merrily put it up in Volume 1. Cue the digital angst!

On the 'rarities' part: of course one man's tat is another man's treasure, but my guiding view has always been: '....it may have started life as a rarity, or by consequence and nature has become one, but if you stumble across something that you'll be unlikely to see again, then....lets have a look!'

The supercars bit takes care of itself, but for me the sheer eclecticism has been where the thread has found genuine longevity. If I have a spare ten minutes and can idle some time on Pistonheads, I'll click on the thread in hope that I will think, "...ooohh, cor, look at that, haven't seen one of those before!"

Like a Disco Volante. Or a Sanction Aston Martin. Or a Jalpa. Or a Volvo 242 Turbo. Or an Austin Princess. Something, anything, that sits apart from the countless, dull and monotonous Audi/Mercedes/BMW silver econosaloons that litter every road!

Anyway, I know what I meant when I started it.

Onto Vol VII!

Lotus Esprit Turbo. This has been parked up the same road for years, and seemingly looked after. The Boss wanted to wander around the wider area for a house hunt. Hates it when I want to stop and soak in a car, but took exception - unbelievably - for this one.

Alpine D5 biturbo.

I'd love to have one of these, or a Turbo R, nicely sunk on its rear haunches taking up most of the drive. Leaking its oil over the red Tarmac. Decadent. Like a modern version of a patrician Roman lazing on a sofa being fed grapes. Because.

Porsche 918.

My grandfather had an '82 Chrysler Córdoba. Wonderfully louche from what I could (barely) remember. I think there's an extremely narrow focus, particularly in the UK as to what constitutes being a petrolhead. Like you must fawn over a Cayman GT4 and the only suitable state of ride must be one that chips teeth when moving out of gear. The roll and waft of US cars of that era was something else. The Opposite Of Taut It Was. But whenever I'm abroad and get to sit in something old (like this) and experience the lolling around at 24mph....I take it. Fun.

Chevrolet Caprice Classic.

Ferrari 330 GTC. Anywhere from £250-450k I'd imagine. I'd have a Bizzarinni myself, but can see the allure.

R34 Tommy Kaira. Never really been into the Skyline brand, but always thought the R34 the most resolved in terms of exterior design. It looks the real deal, but happy for those more in the know to qualify.

Chevrolet SSR. Can't be too many in the UK. Curious time the late nineties, and early 2000s. A fair few manufacturers in that period were seemingly let off their shackles and were obviously working their back catalogue and making concepts come to life. We now live in staid and austere times, where the business case parameters are so tight that corporate courage and zest for producing something that people will just enjoy, is crushed. BMW had the Z8. Ford had their eleventh gen Thunderbird. Pontiac, the Solstice.

Sure you could argue the relative merits of some of these, whether or not they were fast enough, pretty enough, capable enough....but I think it sad when we either qualify something by how well it skids round the Evo Triangle on one end of the spectrum, or we just want something anodyne, silver and with easy to reach IsoFixes. Renault made the Avantime because they could. But it takes a lot to wander away from the tribe, move out of the spectral centroid.

So now Renault lick their wounds, shy away from anything groundbreaking, and then retreat to make crap. Bah humbug.

Used as a pace car at the Indy 500...

Ciao!
