The margins at the side of the plate for cars and motor cycles must be (exactly) 11mm. And, (minimum) 11mm (pre 1973 registrations) and 13mm pre 2001 registrations.

Interestingly, it seems to suggest that HM Gov leaves the policing of this to the MOT tester who should fail incorrect plates.

Looks ok to me either way - shortened a bit or legal length like yours..

The 11mm border adds a bit of symmetry. Full size would look crap.
Adding the 22mm width wouldn't make the 4 digit plate any less exclusive.

Pagani huayra today in the Lakes. Surprised the hell out of me. Blue and covered in muck looking fabulous and being used in icy conditions. I was slipping all over the show so big brace pills to the owner for using that in these conditions. Blue with a Huayra style number plate.
