Driving sunglasses?
Discussion
Maui Jim are the best.
I have two pairs of Maui Jims, a pari of Serengetis, a pair of Silhouetters, a pair of Oakleys and a pair of Ray Bans.
The Maui Jims are the best by a large margin, with the Serengetis in second place. The Oakleys are rubbish, with the polarisation creating a shimmer effect on some surfaces.
I have to wear the Silhouettes or the Ray Bans to see the HUD in the X5 though. Polarisation makes it invisible.
Just try a pair of Maui Jims. They are a revelation.

I'm going to offer up a leftfield suggestions here.
I use Revo sunglasses from the good old US of A and I love them.
I find them excellent with great depth perception.

I use a pair of Bolle polarized sunglasses, fantastic quality (better than any Ray Bans i have handled) and after hunting around i picked them up for just £60 off Amazon

as mad as it seems its worth keeping an eye on the TKmaxx website, randomly they will have a pair of Serengeti sunglasses up for around £60

Sunglasses are probably my one great snobbish vice.
As much as I loathe agreeing with Zod he is entirely correct...its Jims or Ghettis only. Jims are better for water based activities, or driving in sunny/showery conditions and Ghettis are better for normal sunny or changing light conditions.
I invariably spend 150 quid a yr or so as I lose/break a pair each yr. Just bought this yrs Ghettis yesterday

I've got about 12 pairs of sunglasses. From Gucci to Oakley.
And my favourites by a mile, are my 3 pairs of Randolph Engineering Aviators.
The coolest sunglasses ever (although Ray Ban Wayfairer's may be in with a shout)
Google them and see who wears them.
Standard issue to US military pilots and marines.
If its good enough for Top Guns it's good enough to drive in!

I've currently got four pairs in my car!
Ray-Ban Aviators - Gold frames and oversized mirror finish lenses
Metro - Police sunglasses!! Not as in the brand police, as in UK police official issue. Apparently they're very expensive. I didn't pay for them so can't comment
Asda cheap sunglasses - rounded aviator style, don't wear them a lot
River Island circular sunglasses, plastic tortoiseshell frames - I like the shape
I wear them in rotation depending on how I feel, what I'm wearing etc. The cheaper ones probably don't do a lot in terms of eye protection although can be worn when it isn't as bright.
The Ray-Bans are pretty good most of the time. Metros are probably the best for actually working as glasses but stylish they ain't!! The frame design (there are two) goes back to the seventies and hasn't changed at all. I've got that variant. There's a new Metro as well - looks more like generic sports sunglasses, plastic frames and narrower lenses. However probably not as good for blocking out sunlight, and they look a bit boring.
My Mum has a pair of Serengeti sunglasses. I have worn them a few times and they are excellent. Hers are an original like late eighties pair, circular small lenses and brown frames, but still good. I want them! Probably better than anything else really.

Thanks everyone. I think a pair of the Bollé ones look a good bet. Not extortionately priced but still look like good quality.
The optician I bought my Serengetis from recommended Bollé; they have the same parent company apparently. I couldn't find any that suited though, unfortunately. They're certainly more reasonable and very good, though I'd suggest lacking the ultimate quality of their stablemates. DMN said:
I bought a pair of plastic Bloc sunglasses about 8 years ago for a £10. They're still going strong and I use them for driving and Mountianbiking. I keep the expensive glasses for strutting round town looking a tt.
I like Bloc too, good value and because they are cheap (prob £35 these days but often 50% off) you will never loose them I got Oakleys. I wear normal glasses so wanted something prescription, but also a 2nd pair of nomal sunglasses for when im wearing contact lesses. Ended up going for the Oakley Split Jacket as i can change lenses between prescription and normal. Turned out to be a very expensive option (as anyone who has prescription Oakleys will know) but with vented lenses mean they dont steam up when im riding ny bike either so i have various lenses for various activties.
I bought my low priced Polaroid ones from Eyekitand love them. They really do cut down the glare very well, and have taken a fair bit of damage as I just chuck em around.
Eyekit have a good range of driving glasses, including Serengeti, at all prices too so hopefully you'll find something you like.

I have RayBans for driving. They are excellent.
I have to wear sunglasses a lot more than most people, so I have lots of pairs (and Oakley and (real B&L) RayBans are far cheaper than cheap sunglasses in the long run).I have worn Oakleys day to day since the very late nineties when Eye Jackets came out, but I have a pair of Wayfarer Max IIs which I drive in and theyre definitely the most comfortable (to wear and to use) glasses that Ive ever had.
