Nigh on £100k is way too expensive for basically a cooking 911 with a few 'retro' bits....yes

Better off waiting a while for the run out GTS which will doubtless be cheaper with more goodies and a C4 wider body and 450bhp engine.....thumbup

It's got the wider body + plus you can spec the 430hp power kit engine, which what the GTS will have when it appears.

It's the unique retro touches that make the car for me.

So it's not an April fools joke - I thought it must be, just from looking at the wheels ...

Sobering thought.....if you were to spec PDK and powerkit on the car tested it would be coming in at pushing £110k....eek...roughly the same as a reasonable spec GT3!...confused

So Porsche 'look back' and make that - err, OK. I like the colour and interior but the wheels are RANK

I know they were never going to 'do a Singer' - that's not for them to do (they couldn't afford to do it and I doubt they could do it anyway) but given a choice between a 91150 and a Singer - erm - no contesto (I'd also argue your money is safer in the Singer tho I may be proved horribly wrong by that).

Different car for different needs? Not everyone wants the racy version hence the Targa and cabs etc..

I read quite a few reviews of the 997 GTS stating it was the best 997 for driving down a b road including the GT3 which was too hard when the going got bumpy.

I think it's horses for courses, hell I'd be happy with a 991 C2! thumbup

Er, not sure if you're serious? It seems to me that the company that has produced the 918 and 919 could quite comfortably have the requisite technology and financial resources to restore a 60s/70s example of their own back-catalogue and stick a new engine/brakes/suspension in it.

Interesting. In the US, the X50 power kit is standard in the 911 50AE, giving 430HP.

They always get a better deal, I would imagine the car is a whole lot cheaper too.

Its a good looking car, from one angle only and without the naff wheels.

The 991 needs to be consigned to history sooner rather than later, it is questionable how popular these cars will be once the Gen2 991 lands and no matter what they seem to do with it, the car leaves me stone cold.

The 997 sports classic makes this car look like a bloated design mess.

I wonder what the gen2 will add? A little more power perhaps, but I'm not sure the step will be the same as with the 997 gen2 with a brand new engine/front suspension/front and rear PU/PDK/new nav/ipod/bt etc.... as that was a big step on from the gen1 almost a new model.

I don't think they are really bad but I kinda agree. To me Fuchs or Fuchs style wheels look too blocky, simple and thick. They look like they should bolt onto a Lego car! biggrin
I'd rather have a more modern style of wheel but when they came out I guess they were the new, cool thing to have. It's just that unlike a BBS or BBS style of wheel I don't think they've dated well. Putting standard large pressed steel wheels onto German cars I don't understand either that's like installing a vinyl roof onto your car! biggrin

They've gone for a black and silver two tone style on the BRZ/GT86 wheel but I don't like that wheel style much either. They do have the advantage that you don't really need to clean them as brake dust is the same colour but that's not going to make me love them!

I'm American, so decided to check for giggles. MSRP on the Cayman GTS I ordered is $90,025[1]. In the UK, MSRP is £64,292 including VAT.

However, your price includes the 20% VAT. I'll be levied a 6.25% sales tax in my state (Massachusetts), so the price of my Porsche is $95,650 with tax. That's still cheaper than in the UK, but in the UK you're paying over 3 times as much tax as I am here. If you take taxes out of the equation, it's sliiiightly cheaper in the UK (and you have the option of the carbon fiber sport bucket seats!). The 20% VAT is what gets you.

[1] Before negotiations. I threw a softball and only negotiated a 3% discount, which will also affect how much sales tax I pay.

I don't know Wills, I live in hope of some additional Stuttgart special sauce.

Porsche need a car to compete with Mclaren, Jaguar and the new R8, this 991 is not it.

The 997 is big but at least the design team for the different components talked to one another. On the 991, they made the best individual part they could without a thought for how it would look when put together. For a car celebrating 50 years of the 911, it is a much poorer effort, they could have at least thrown in the duck-tail and power-kit, what makes this car less special than the Club Coupe?
