May only be a 420 but looks gorgeous!
Great photos, doesn't that look lovely. I'm sure the 420 would be sufficient for a cruiser. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C492283

I'm sure I have almost £3k around if you wanted some money towards it... in exchange for the A8!

What dismal cosmic Venn diagram is it that means there are women we love, and women who 'get it' when it comes to cars, but no sodding overlap?
There are exceptions: my wife was very supportive in me buying a 993 last month, even with the prospect of delaying her new kitchen!!She did get a bathroom though.

Looks very well kept, but for the undersized engine.
I know there is much love for the larger-engined stuff, but is a 420 really undersized in any meaningful way? It's never going to challenge a proper sports car - and I doubt few drivers would want it to - so surely condition and provenance is more important at the 3k (minus) and 25-year (plus) point than its displacement?
Context, innit.
Edit: don't buy it and hide it. That didn't go down well for me. Come to think of it, I only redeemed myself by selling my SEC and giving the money to the boss.
Second edit: do you think this is the same car? http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C481089

Scant consolation for you, but that is exactly the position I'm in right now. I'm taking the 50s-man approach; 'I choose the cars and you'll drive what you're given'.
Well, I am in my fantasy. The reality is that I'm firmly in the dog-house
Nice Volvo barge in attractive colours, FSH and low miles for half thread budget:

That 500 SE is a beauty... Hope your wife agrees! Well done.
Nice E34 touring here:

Makes a 124 look pricey.

Cost to sort the creaking on the E65?
£80 all in. The ride height difference could be a saggy spring or a spring cup (or something or the other) which hasn't been done. Basically that will cost almost £400 including labour and he said no harm driving it as it is. Springs and shocks look in reasonable condition and the ride height difference (just!) falls within bmw limits.
Happy days.
