That 500 SE is a beauty... Hope your wife agrees! Well done.

Nice E34 touring here:

and here http://www.kgfclassiccars.co.uk/details.php?cid=32...

Makes a 124 look pricey.

Personally I like the colour. I'm not so sure about the 4 wheel drive - does this just mean complexity and cost? I will take my BMWs RWD thanks!

Thanks for all the encouraging posts. I will of course start a thread and post a link here. If I stop posting, someone call the cops and get them to check under my patio! heheevil
Not before offering to buy the car for half what you paid for it first smile

Sadly, yes. Significantly scarcer (ergo dearer) parts availability for the 4wd system and other bespoke iX bits and bobs.

You never knew the Mercedes CL existed?!

That model is literally just about the end production, to be replaced with that new S-class coupe...

I reeaaallly like these... cloud9

This car is the car I am waiting for to fall into thread budget along with the post facelift s211 E500/E63

Assuming it's not been done to death already: What car are you praying for to depreciate into thread budget?

ironically, for a while I was considering one of these as my next car after the E65 (though probably purchase through finance). I'd quite like a big GT car and the Merc CL is every bit as well put together and probably a better drive than a Continental GT.

They really are stupendous cars. I tried convincing my dad to get a 2nd hand CL63 or even CL65 after his M3 as he wanted something a bit more "grown up" but he ended up with the F13 M6 frown which, admittedly, is far from a bad car....

Well they'll be in thread budget before much longer. I don't mind them: probably the nicest of recent Mercs?

Lovely looking, and it's got the twin sunroof as well as aircon. I did some research a while back and despite some scare stories about unique parts, actual owners reported that they had been able to source bits the unique bits. Also, it's the only E34 with a steering rack instead of a steering box.

Following the SEL-love, the Thread-massive (sorry) might like this.
Possibly haggle-able to budget:

Awful, looks like its been filled with filler and painted. By a blind drunk monkey.
Is it that bad? I know you can hide a lot with photos. Maybe it is, and I was just attracted to the shiny-ness!

I know little about these, but thought that looked OK.
No it's not that bad, I think I was just being grumpy. The paint down the sides does look poor to me, but I think the interior is very nice. Top money though?

Now here I am thinking a nice D3 A8 (4.2 petrol of course) will be my choice of barge later in the year, even if I have to go a little out of thread budget, and then something like that appears!
As I am at work I can't see the price, but if these come even slightly near thread budget I am going to have some tough decisions!

On a separate note I pick up my new barge/banger tomorrow.
A Saab 9-5 Aero estate for less than the minimum thread value (with recent receipted timing belt change!) biggrin

Remain laidback Laidback66 - the CL linked to is £18.5k there's time to run an A8 in the interim before they reach thread territory.

Congrats on the new barge!

£17.5k! frown

I will stick with going for the A8 then (less terrifying bork potential also).

And thanks, but I am not sure a 9-5 estate is really barge material confused
Bought on impulse though (pictures and write up), and will see it properly when I go to collect it tomorrow (some 100 miles away), so that has to count for something wink

Congrats on the purchase - we're on a roll in here at the moment. You've bought it the right way too - assertive but unseen (viewings and test drives are for ninnies)!

Don't worry too much about what 'barge' actually stands for - most of us don't. If it's large-ish, comfy-ish, cheap-ish, interesting-ish, and with the potential to deliver an eye-watering bill, it belongs in here!

Funnily enough a CL63 would be a car I'd love to depreciate into my budget - certainly going to happen a lot sooner than a Panamera at any rate. Also waiting for the X251 to drop, a XJL Supersport would be just the ticket.

My apologies chaps, as predicted I won't be attending the Sunday Service. Have a great time, I'll have to beg Ross for a nose around the E65 some other time.

Picking the car up tomorrow.... Cycling in the pissing rain this morning made me really want the car back hehe

Hopefully they'll still be a good turn out.
