My FIL has a mint early 4.2. He keeps trying to trade it in, but nothing he test drives comes close, especially for the money he'd have to part with.
They are sort of 'the dream' for me, being the last iteration of a classically styled Jaguar. But the reading about electrical issues and water leaks is worrying!
He's never had an issue, but it's only done 60k and lives in a garage.

I nearly always attend the Classic auctions at SWVA in Poole as they are very local to me. Plan to attend next week and will probably have a bid on the s600. Got outbid on a Bentley at the last auction....

Anyone else going? Will try and take a few pics and post up some results of the barges.
Or for a haggle within thread budget, this S600?

^^ I have to wait until the seller has collected it from wherever it is now before I can view, hopefully it will be this weekend but it might have to wait until next week.

Super reply R129SL, thanks.

There are some great upcoming opportunities for barge congregation

Next Tuesday evening 22nd July, is the PH South East gathering at Redhill Aerodrome - sign up at this thread

For Mercedes-Benz Club members, August 31st is the club's annual W124 day to be held at the Haynes Motor Museum.

I'm going to try and make it to both, speak-up if you're going too, it's great to meet bargists in the wild!

[quote=r129slLots of very sensible stuff as usual

I am working my way through a similar list hehe

One thing I would say is that the engine/transmission mounts make a massive difference to refinement. I did mine recently, and like many other acounts on the internet they made a huge difference to the car. Straightforward enough DIY with a couple of little tricks.

I would add the M119 is pretty much bullet proof. Nothing really to worry about.

A 1990 car is pre-wiring loom issues. My understanding is that these are on post '92 cars in the main. Certainly the loom on my car is in pretty good shape. Are you sure it's the 5 speed gearbox? Mine is a 1991 car and is 4 speed I believe.

Don't think I would travel 100+ miles for it.

It shouldn't need saying, but just in case:

If anyone does encounter a bargist in the wild, be sure to approach from the side avoiding eye-contact and loud noises, and definitely avoiding any mention of timing belts, sills and the MOT, lest you frighten the beast.

I'm not available for the Redhill event, but will definitely be at the MB 124 day at the end of Aug.

Thinking about it, its easy to spot - on the 124, the selector has "4-3-2" for a 5, just "3-2" with a 4. Guess its the same with a 129.

This keeps winking at me.

Thankfully, I now otherwise occupied with the E34 or else I might just have been crazy enough.

Can you imagine the heartache of bidding, winning, going all the way over and making arrangements to drive it back only to then find out it's been mis-described?

Leather looks tired, almost like BMW leather apparently wink

Wrong wheels too. Needs gingers with that colour in my opinion, although I know clears would have been standard.

All this R129 love is getting to me and I'm starting to think I need one in my life!

I have one more question - I have had the pleasure of driving a Pagoda and a 1976 SL but this was a few years ago and my memory is not that good but I recall that they suffered with a little bit of scuttle shake.

Does the R129 suffer with this problem?

A little (much less with the roof on) and it is a bit irritating...but nothing on the scale of the Pagoda or R107.

Yes, the wheels don't do it favours but easily sorted and one would get some money back on the ones on it. The lights are correct for the car (but would only be £12 to swap if one wanted orange).

The leather is circa £400 to renovate.

And there's a seat-belt butler obviously "US".

Thank God I'm tied up at the moment!

I'll be there on Tuesday - rude not to when I live so close! I may not be in the barge having just spent many times thread budget on an S5 Sportback 3 litre supercharged which may get an outing instead smile
