Maybe get someone on here who's local to view it in terms of condition etc first. Then if that stacks up get on a plane with the intention of buying it.

The colour scheme is slightly unusual (not sure I've seen red with grey lower panels before?) but it may actually look better in the flesh than it appears in the photos?

The Signal Red itself looks really great on these cars in the flesh IMHO. The added advantage is that its very easily detail-able because its a true solid paint (not a basecoat and lacquer like the metallic cars).

If you really don't like the grey lower panels and bumpers that's (relatively) easily changed. It's a bit laborious taking them all off along with the bumper inserts and chrome strips but nothing any basic DIYer like me can't do with a bit of patience. If you look at this page you'll see how I did it when I repainted (albeit in their same original colour) them on my 300CE.

IMHO, if that mileage and description are accurate that's a very cheap car for what it is.

Do you mean the Gtechniq coatings that I use to help make cleaning the wheels easier? Because needed the car and was desperate to get the coating on I got 1 wheel done at a time and then used some panel wipe to ensure the wheel was really clean then applied the coating to the wheel in my garage. Then wait 2 days to cure and when I get the chance, pop that wheel on the car and remove a wheel and get that refurbished and repeat.

If you can be without the wheels that's much easier (and what I'd have liked to have done) as you can get all refurbished and coated at once.

If you don't want to do the coating application yourself (it's not hard as such, but needs to be done properly and not as straight forward as applying a wax or something similar) you can always get a detailer to do it for you. Worth doing, as the chap who bought my E38 on here attested to.... It makes the wheels so easy to clean, literally, just water is enough to bring them up like new again.
Yep, that's it - which products specifically is it that go on? I will be buying winter rims so once the summer rims are refurbished I can spend some time treating them indoors before I have tyres fitted smile

No chrome strips on the Saccos on these very early coupés, so even easier and cheaper to remove and repaint.

The later "matching" contrast colour was 3515 tartan red. However, these early cars with the 7177 stratus grey Saccos are very rare and it is a nice original feature which harks back to the 500 SL C. It's not like you're going to add extra wood to the dash and doors, or chrome to the exterior handles, or chrome strips to the bumpers and Saccos.

Gtechniq C1 and then Gtechniq EXO. You'll need panel wipe as well. They're really very good products.

Is panel wipe basically isopropyl alcohol? If so have some I can use.

Will look up the products on my favourite detailing supplier - cheers biggrin

ccording to Ed China the compressor issue is usually a borked piston/gasket which can be fixed. You can't buy the part but should be able to get one fabricated for not very much. (IIRC from the prog on this model)
This guy makes and sells the kits -£25

I used this guy's £25 kit to solve a ~£400 problem on an X350 XJ6.

He is, IMO, a toppy top dude.

No, IPA is not strong enough for C1 and EXO. You'll need panel wipe, which is what paint sprayers use for spraying a car.

Mussel Grey on the Smoke Silver cars throughout. Basically, up to August 1989 there were four contrasting shades; thereafter there were about 16 rather more complementary shades. I updated my 1986 SEC to the later look because I too found the contrast too stark.

Don't think we've had an E38 for a while. How about this one;

Like that a lot. E38 in Imola is just right, don't think I've seen a red E65 but don't think I'd feel the same way.

I agree really like that, makes me miss my Imola E39... I should have never sold that car!

I could happily have a fleet in Imola.

Red is a bit much for everyday though.

Looks surprisingly good, IMO. Carries a bit of a statement as well (at least it would here). Just like a fine suit in a rather loud colour. The privacy glass would definitively have to go though.

Love that imola E39. Gorgeous.

How about a nice V8 E39 Sport Touring, very unusual colour combo.

Sounds good, must admit I'm very tempted to go down the r129 route. The jag drives very well but have a real want for a r129. Either that or a w140 in 500 form. However anything anyone needs looking at in the Glasgow area feel free to give me a shout.
