129 : looks spot on from an amateurs viewpoint.
£££ deflector in boot, along with blue file containing every bill since year dot hopefully. Kumho tyres 6/10, roof looks great as does engine bay - just right - not overcleaned and shinied up with silicone but not filthy either. Clean underneath, decent looking exhaust, non-barried radio. Looks low miles not messed with rather than tarted up.
Minuses - can't see drivers bolster as 'belt hides it - that really bugs me when people do that, owner also drives a Peugeot failed-lifestyle thing and the gravel is a bit cheap looking wink
Perfect colour scheme smile

I'm far from being an expert of even knowledgeable on these but it looks nice to me in the pics and you've been thinking about one for a while so I just wanted to post to encourage you to buy it!

yes I use it to disguise the hole in the bolster on mine. Also you can't really see it when you get in, and once in you can't see it because you're sitting on it. Ergo there's no reason to fix it. That's my excuse anyway.

Bolster repair from a good upholsterer in matching leather should be no more than £100 if it's only 1 leather patch that needs replacing.

I can recommend this chap; http://www.classiccarwebsite.com/new-forest-auto-t...

Who transformed the drivers seat in my 325ti from this;

to this;

For £200 (two leather patches replaced).

Wow, thats impressive and good to know.

Doesn't exactly meet the 'best' criteria but about the lowest you can get into a running Maser for.

Love that imola E39. Gorgeous.

How about a nice V8 E39 Sport Touring, very unusual colour combo.

if that had black leather id be all over that

v8 check
manual check
dog friendly wagon check
sub 5k check

meets my current criteria for a fun second car to a tee.

That is far more appealing than it should be.

It can legitimately happen though, lots of short journeys meaning lots more getting in and out of the car, sharp belts or clothes etc etc.

Indeed. It also happens to be just the sort of car that I'd happily watch someone in this thread go out, buy and enjoy.

Any takers?

Given that it can be fixed for £100 or less that seems scant reason for passing up what might otherwise be a decent car. At 20 ish years old they've all got problems. Some are more obvious than others, but 20 years of age alone means bits are worn out, perished, beyond their useful life etc. The perfect car doesn't exist unless it's had a gazillion pounds spent on it, and is priced accordingly. That said, I'm firmly in the camp of "buy it cheap" and spend the money/time fixing the bits that need fixing. Provided the body is sound most other things on a R129 can be mended relatively cheaply (the exception possibly being hydraulic hood gubbins).

It does actually fall there, and the bit you can still see of the bolster is the bit that would wear (the bit that the belt is covering is not where I have ever seen wear on a 129). My car is on 102k now and hasn't the slightest bit of wear on that part so this car should be fine. It looks spot on from the dropbox link. Only minor thing would be check that the wind deflector cover is there, the material they are made from seems pretty fragile and if you put stuff in the boot without the cover being on the deflector it wouldn't take much to snag it.

I do hope you buy it I reckon we've had at least 5 volumes of chat from you about buying one hehe

You are buying a c124 as well though right? I'm hanging in there (though not holding breath) on the strength of the double payout promise.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I have a likening for cars with ruinous reputations, good job its too far away for me...then again there's always shiply, and its not much more than I paid for a Saab 9-3 convertible for the Mrs that I just bid, paid for and had delivered totally unseen.

I go one stage further, if a car I'm viewing comes on here I generally mail the guy who linked it and attach this message as a warning to what may happen if there post isn't deleted, tout de suite

Someone must have had very leaky elbows to need the arm-rest re-trimming in black.

That's minging! Although to be fair if the bodywork is broadly as good as the under bonnet view suggests it might be possible to either find another complete interior or have that one retrimmed professionally to end up with something pretty decent? Probably best to think of it as a £10k car but that most of the money will be spent after purchase lol
