If you definitely have no interest in pulling the skin from the proverbial rice pudding, then the X300 3.2 is the one hehe
Probably feels turbocharged alongside a XJ40 2.9

This looks nice although the ad is rubbish:

looks like it made £3950
Strong money? Wonder if it will be relisted.

Looks absolutely spotless! Is it as good 'in the metal' as it looks in the pictures?

I am driving a 1990 300E (borrowed) for my 60 mile commuting round trip every day. I have to say, it's a great bit of kit. Very civilised machine to drive, but also capable of going bat-st crazy (in a very refined way) if you plant your right foot down.

Not sure I want to give it back...

Is it? For faily low miles, good spec and it looks pretty clean! Not forgetting V8..

They are nice, but "bat-st crazy" if you plant your right foot down.....you sure about that? hehe What are you used to driving!?

hehe I meant that as a relative term, naturally. It is repectably quick though. I haven't timed it, but it must be around the 8 second mark for the 0-60?

Makes quite a nice noise when working hard, too. It kind of wants to howl, but is quite muted and pleasant about it.

I was looking at that only last night. Looks great and a very desirable colour/interior/spec.

Mine had about those miles, a similar spec (minus heated rear seats and table but plus ortho front seats) and cost me £1750 so yes £3950 is strong, even given values have gone up a bit in the last four years.

Must be about that. They're slower than a 320d to 60, and I wouldn't call that bat-st crazy hehe I would call it boring and dreary, mind.

It's all relative. The smaller engined versions of any one of the large smoker barges all have very ordinary performance in comparison to even mid range modern machinery. The 3.2 litre X300 is no slower than a W126 300SE for example, and considerably faster than something like a W124 Mercedes 230E. Even the 2.9 litre XJ40 is quicker than a 230E! wink

If you're used to driving the modern luxobarge then you'll find any one of them very slow.

I'd say so yees. This one has much lower miles (not as nice spec admittedly) but it could probably be had for £2k;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1997-P-Mercedes-Benz-S-5...

I think the one that has made £4k has made that money off the back of a comprehensive ad and some very nice pictures

The £2k one on ebay you mention has been viewed by a thread contributor, and by all accounts it's a lemon with frilly arches and an driven by an elephant.

£4k for the first car looks fine value if it all adds up.

The 300e is quite sufficient enough for wafting about in, there is no need to be vulgar and make up for other deficiencies in a vehicle by adding more power smile

This is going to be delivered into my custody next week as my friend is going on holiday. I shall report... Apparently one of the seat belt butlers doesn't work, the air con needs converting to r134 and one of the door windows doesn't work. No rust anywhere, it is said. We shall see.

Some serious barging ahead of me: I'm 305miles from home, languishing in the Monmouth service station. I really can't be chewed...
