210's can rust every bit as badly! I've seen cars which you could stick your fingers through the inner wings and sills. Spring perches literally shearing off is no myth either, I was talking to a mechanic who was repairing them on a 210 a few weeks ago.

I've only seen light bubbling around the bootlid and arches on E39's, I imagine its preventable with touching up stone chips and cleaning properly?

Got to say it looks clean and tidy.
Tyre prices caused me to nearly spill my tea!
Should serve as a truly superb chariot across Europe. I await the reports smile
Oh and I am surprised there has been no consternation at the description of it driving like a W124 wink
It is tidy - three car parking dings that Dent Devils could sort out in an hour. However, herself informs me that Italians like to park their cars by touch, so I won't do anything on that until we're back home.

Tyres - in 235/55R17 which is +1.something percent on circumference - can be done for about £110 each, so that's the sensible step.

Well, it's like a W124 but much moreso, sort of a continuation of where MB was back then: solid, understated, refined and cossetting rather than direct and engaging. I suppose technically, it's more W126-inspired, but I haven't driven one of those.

Slightly O/T, but can anyone provide a good source for w124 body parts? I need to replace the rear bumper impact strip on my estate after a liaison with our wall at the hands of my wife....

body and paintwork looks very odd to me, something not right about it.

I had front and rear s124 impact strips last year. From what I remember fronts were easy to get pattern replacements cheap... rear we ended up going genuine.

Think the sacco panels are normally a different colour. I'm unconvinced the Designo scheme was available in 1991 wink
No megabucks parcel shelf rust on the saloons - coupes only? - other than rust and worn suspension there isn't much to go wrong.
420 is supposed to be the smoothest of the V8s but I'd always want at least a 500, and I reckon I'd prefer to spend a bit more to get a more collectible lower-miles specimen... is there a chance the 420 will be difficult to sell due to everyone else always wanting a 500/560 as well?
Double the price

Triple the price

If I were in the market for one of these, I'd be buying the MTSV petrol blue example. You get nothing for nothing.

yea but one panel isn't typically a different colour to the neighbour! It looks in places like someone has painted it themselves. I can't put my finger on it, but it looks like there are parts which have been painted which aren't normally. The boot badge looks weird too, sometimes an indicator of the bodywork having had extensive st repairs or changes done unto it!

All the bumper chrome being painted makes it look weird.

So, I was faffing about on GoCompare last night doing some quotes... I saw a Bentley Mulsanne (1985-ish model year) going for five grand so thought I'd try a quote for a laugh.

£750.

To put that into context, I'm a recently new driver (December), 26 years old, no NCB. It'd cost me about £50 less to get myself insured on a 1.2 Panda.

So... how terrifying are these things to live with on a daily basis? It wouldn't be a daily driver so fuel consumption isn't an issue, I just want something to waft around in at weekends.

I don't know much about cars like that apart from they're truly in a different league in repair costs compared to the more common luxury metal.

Wait, what?

As above, I think that when it comes to repair bills and part costs these old buses are in another league to things like Merc S classes, BMW 7s or Audi A8s. I may be talking crap, mind!

If a Panda is a new-build flat with 10 year NHBC guarantee, a 20 year old Merc is a Victorian semi. Been looked after, may need a bit of tidying - plastering, a rewire and a new roof.
The 5 grand Bentley - if it were a house it'd look like this...

Decent car, notwithstanding the dull-looking silver and no leather, but the real crime against sanity is the crack-pipe pricing. 12grand?

12 fking grand... merseyside... 12 grand. I'll pass thanks.

not terrifying at all providing you have many times the cost of the car sat in the bank and with nothing else to spend it on.

"The spare wheel has never been used"

It has rusty bolt holes for never being used, balancing weights and paint on the tyre.

£12,000!?? It hasn't even got dustcaps.
