not terrifying at all providing you have many times the cost of the car sat in the bank and with nothing else to spend it on.

Decent car, notwithstanding the dull-looking silver and no leather, but the real crime against sanity is the crack-pipe pricing. 12grand?

12 fking grand... merseyside... 12 grand. I'll pass thanks.
£12,000 is far too much, but it does look to be in excellent condition. I have always liked the velour in this series of 'S' Class, I prefer it in some ways to the leather. I have never been that keen on Mercedes leather; it is good quality and wears well, but I don't find it feels particularly nice.

What's wrong with the car being on the Wirral? confused

So, I was faffing about on GoCompare last night doing some quotes... I saw a Bentley Mulsanne (1985-ish model year) going for five grand so thought I'd try a quote for a laugh.

£750.

To put that into context, I'm a recently new driver (December), 26 years old, no NCB. It'd cost me about £50 less to get myself insured on a 1.2 Panda.

So... how terrifying are these things to live with on a daily basis? It wouldn't be a daily driver so fuel consumption isn't an issue, I just want something to waft around in at weekends.
not terrifying at all providing you have many times the cost of the car sat in the bank and with nothing else to spend it on.
Without direct experience of this I think:

The cost of improving it is utterly heart-stopping
The cost of keeping everything working and generally 'ok' is pretty scary
The cost of running it with a make-do shedding philosophy isn't too bad at all. It's the 'garnish' that goes off, not the steak and chips.

If you buy it in a fairly lousy state for £5k, I'm sure as long as it's MOTable, Greater Fool Theory will always allow you to retrieve £3k from the adventure whenever your nerves give up.

And an old Bentley is one of those rare cars that it is entirely acceptable to run rusty!

If a Panda is a new-build flat with 10 year NHBC guarantee, a 20 year old Merc is a Victorian semi. Been looked after, may need a bit of tidying - plastering, a rewire and a new roof.
The 5 grand Bentley - if it were a house it'd look like this...

That is probably the best description for any car I have seen - brilliant! laugh

S8 - terrible cars, I don't regret selling mine at all, no, not even a tiny little bit, nope... so tell you what, I'll save you the continued pain and take it off your hands for £501 - then you're net £1001 up .. (I may have some separation issues from my S8 even after a few years wink )
Call it £1k and it's yours! Off into the garage on Wednesday - timing most annoying as I'm at a 2-day meeting Tues and Wed (so someone has to drop it off for me) and then need to take it away for a long weekend Friday morning!

Went to see this over lunch with fair to moderate hopes.

Rust on each and every panel to varying degrees, inside was like a chicken coop rolleyes

Do all W210s rust or have some escaped the worm?

Wonderful thing, but cling film and wheels.
BRG and cream italian leather - perfect.
Then someone went and did that to it.

140k Maserati - what's the worst etc.
For 'worst that can happen' see 5 grand Bentley

Easy to sort the rust though.
1 - remove engine and 'box
2 - place engine and 'box in previously emptied 124T
3 - apart from a call to the scrapyard that's it, done

Or do what I did and 'invest' the vehicle's value in having it all removed, rust-proofed and re-sprayed.

Aren't the later 'facelift' better for rust prevention?

Worrying gap in servicing though:

98,561 miles - 10/08/2007

103,364 miles - 13/08/2013

I know it didn't cover a lot of mileage but still.

I had a very rust free one (now sold and miss it a bit... impossible capable vehicle) and even that was rusting on the INNER arches and a couple of spots crept around the front.

Best I've seen are either recently resprayed (it always returns) or limited to none on the body, but some in the arches.

And yet absolutely no mention of it in the listing at all?
I'm beginning to get sick of Ebay. There are just so many liars on there. I just received a CD headunit that I bought off Ebay to go in the E34 525i. It's just arrived with missing items off the fascia and the whole of the left side of the fascia loose. No mention of that in the listing and it is now clear that the photo used by the seller isn't of the actual unit they were selling! fking bh! mad
