Blimey what a change, though it should feel better for the £2,234.60 bill I paid today! I must have the highest purchase price to money spent on work done on PH (my parts were another £500+, this did include a major service, sorting a couple of non suspension items, and fixing the rear window though)!

It's great to get in and drive with the car having that 'new car' taughtness to it, ... Phase 1 complete, engine and gearbox next, followed by paint.
That's brilliant news, and well done you for putting money into a car you like rather than taking the easy option and scrapping it. I bet you'll enjoy every penny of that investment, and I bet your car will be easily as good as most other cars - of any type and budget - out there that you'll see daily.

It's funny how this betterment thing can be addictive - you'll be 'doing-a-Derin' before you know it!

I viewed a car at the weekend, and the chap has so far sold 3 of his late father-in-law's cars. Two remain, the one I viewed and this:

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C520456

I understand it's had a new head gasket, amongst other work.

Looks quite nice in these colours I thought:

Nope mad

It was so bad I didn't even want to feign interest to get a test drive. The boot looked like a dog bed as there were several hairy smelly looking rugs lining the flooring. I've not driven one yet and am keen to see how one compares to mine. I just couldn't be bothered to dance the dance.

Doesn't look too scabby. Wonder why no interior pics though.............woof woof.
Called this very dealer to take a look at a car a while ago. Was long gone and still on their website for a while. Were pretty rude with me, also.

And re 126s...
12 large 52k 500
Crazy price, but it does look very very nice.
Decent car, notwithstanding the dull-looking silver and no leather, but the real crime against sanity is the crack-pipe pricing. 12grand?

12 fking grand... merseyside... 12 grand. I'll pass thanks.
Council estate, too.

Twelve grand for a very nice W126 sounds very reasonable to me. If I put mine up for sale at a shade under ten grand, I should have people fighting over it then! laugh

Not that one, no. We did discuss it in some detail but I didn't see it.

Ha! That's my old car. Part exed it for a Citroen C6 on 99k miles - it needed a head gasket.

On the face of it, that looks pretty good. Always irritating when they don't mention mileage though.

Agree, although you'd still take a ride in Scarlett Johanssen, even if she had many miles on her but didn't say it....

That is a nice W140. Think I prefer them to the W124 (should I run and hide
)

Went to see this over lunch with fair to moderate hopes.

Rust on each and every panel to varying degrees, inside was like a chicken coop rolleyes

Do all W210s rust or have some escaped the worm?
They often actually manage to look fairly rot free in photographs, the reality however is always a different story. A bit like wide angled estate agent photos of a wimpy home.

Never travel any distance to view a Merc of that era.

I'm beginning to get sick of Ebay. There are just so many liars on there. I just received a CD headunit that I bought off Ebay to go in the E34 525i. It's just arrived with missing items off the fascia and the whole of the left side of the fascia loose. No mention of that in the listing and it is now clear that the photo used by the seller isn't of the actual unit they were selling! fking bh! mad
Now I just leave (scrupulously honest and accurate) neutral or negative feedback for the tts.

Yes. It wasn't the most financially sensible thing I ever did especially as it was the petrol c6. Great cars though.
The coupe was in good condition inside and out( no bolster wear, just a small crack in the veneer etc) but I never really fell in love with it - I don't like black leather or sportline which puts me in the minority I guess. History was fairly decent and it drove well. I only found out it needed a head gasket when the Citroen dealer told me later that a 'well known specialist mercedes dealer' came to look at it and told him. I ended up selling the c6 back to the Citroen dealer for half what I paid ( 18 months and 25000 miles later) after trying to sell it privately for 6 months.

I know everyone here will disagree with me, and they are older, but I see more fundamentally rotten W124's than W210's. Yes, the W210's rot but so do W124's and the 124's tend to go in very critical, rather than cosmetic, areas.

I've got a px 124 in at the moment. late model, 1 owner, 87k, rotten as the proverbial. Every wheel arch (inside) right through plus lots of cosmetic. Failed MOT on 3 critical areas. Drives great, but will have to scrap it.

124's, late ones anyway, rot too (plus W140's) and let no one tell you they don't!

Cheap E55 estate here; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-E55-AMG-S2...

Sounds like he is open to offers as well.
Worrying gap in servicing though:

98,561 miles - 10/08/2007

103,364 miles - 13/08/2013

I know it didn't cover a lot of mileage but still.
From my experience, I wouldn't be too concerned about that history, provided an MOT check didn't show too much.

I must have gone against the grain, I bought my E55 on 175,000 miles, with no service history whatsoever and a "broken" engine.

The broken engine was a broken engine mount and it has been mechanically faultless in the last 3 years

It was cheap though wink

As an aside, I have been offered this, believed to be one owner and only 54,000 miles.

Unfortunately has rust on all arches and doors, but i'd have a waft about for a while if it was cheap enough.

What do you think I should be offering?
