Agree, although you'd still take a ride in Scarlett Johanssen, even if she had many miles on her but didn't say it....

That is a nice W140. Think I prefer them to the W124 (should I run and hide
)
I also prefer the W140 so you are not alone.

Although not so keen on the pre-faclift W140, the interior looks way more dated, chiefly because of the climate control panel.

As an aside, I have been offered this, believed to be one owner and only 54,000 miles.

Unfortunately has rust on all arches and doors, but i'd have a waft about for a while if it was cheap enough.

What do you think I should be offering?

What engine? How long on the MOT? The latter question quite important if buying it as a rusty shed I guess and if its showing lots of surface rust it may also have structural and therefore fail next MOT unless welded?

Oops, should have said, it's an S500 and has just been mot'd to remove the cherished plate.

I'd hope it was similar to my E55, with superficial rust on the bolt on panels, but it would still need checking closely!

Low mileage 1 owner S500 with 12 months MOT? Even with the rust it's got to be £2-3k I would have thought.

Classic W123 barge? Looks nice in Green - seat covers would need to go though. And it needs a clutch..... And what else.....

Do all W210s rust or have some escaped the worm?
I've a December 2000 model that is rust free. At least, everything visible on the outside is unaffected.

You're right, an auto would be better. Smart looking thing though.

Too much gassing and not enough barges being posted chaps....

Strong money, but not many left with this sort of mileage.

BMW 5 SERIES 535i Sport 4dr Auto 3.5
39700 miles

That's ridiculous VFM at £3-3.5k. Great find, as usual Edo.
Ta. I may get me a barge after the 6 series goes back end of August, just a bit early for me presently!
Seller just sent me this:

Looks great, somebody here should give it a good home. I'd be making a beeline for it myself if I weren't already suitably barged up.

Strange ad though - loads of different photos from different times/locations, for example a photo with old style lights, then with new.

I viewed a car at the weekend, and the chap has so far sold 3 of his late father-in-law's cars. Two remain, the one I viewed and this:

I understand it's had a new head gasket, amongst other work.

Looks quite nice in these colours I thought:

Like the look of that, did you view it?
Ha! That's my old car. Part exed it for a Citroen C6 on 99k miles - it needed a head gasket.
Very nice looking car!

Now Charles, I can't believe that nobody has asked the obvious question...and I can resist no longer:

"So what did you actually go to view yourself....hmmm?" laugh

You're the first to ask Derin!

Really nice vendor. Car was a 500 SL.

Nice car, but may need just a little too much work for someone such as I, who combines the unfortunate attributes of being both too impecunious to pay others and yet too technically incompetent to do it myself!

That SL?

I might have another stab at a weekend viewing if its still for sale. What did you find?

History was a bit patchy for me - only 1 Inspection 2 ever done (in 07).

Presumably because it's been serviced only when the distance indicator counts down.

It's also not a Sport, so I don't know why the owner is pretending it is. A Sport pack on an SE does not a Sport make, even though there was no factory Sport when it was new.

I emailed the seller about the W124 he's got for sale but apparently he's got someone potentially interested in taking both of them.

A 200? A manual? Needs a clutch? BAD. Yet I really like the look of that. Completely wrong but I guess I just like 4 door old mercs.

MD has been 'persuaded' away from the e28 for various reasons. I suspect the fun would have quickly worn off an early 80s 520 compared to the XC90 family car he currently runs...
