I might have another stab at a weekend viewing if its still for sale. What did you find?
I emailed the seller about the W124 he's got for sale but apparently he's got someone potentially interested in taking both of them.I might have another stab at a weekend viewing if its still for sale. What did you find?

Blimey, you were too quick for me; was going to e-mail. Message to follow. I might have another stab at a weekend viewing if its still for sale. What did you find?
- Come to think of it, I bought a 190 which ran hot in traffic on the way home, I made it all the way around the north circ in thick traffic on a bloody hot day with the heaters on full blast to keep it cool. It was just the fan switch but it only occurred to me to bypass it when I had reached home

Beautiful immaculate and completely rust free blue/black bodywork. New tyres just fitted and air con recharged.
Beige leather electric, heated, memory seats.
Well documented 62,000 miles.
Genuine MB soft top and factory hard top with HRW.
Becker autoradio Mexico 2000.
Adjustable suspension, comfort and sport mode.
Automatic gearbox, economy and standard mode.
Cruise control.
Automatic climate control.
Fanfare and normal horn.
Ride height adjustment.
Waxoiled underneath.
Wheels just refurbished.
Two remote flip keys in original box.
Good service history with old MOT's and tax discs.
Taxed to October and MOT to April 2015.
The car was first registered on 09/09/1992. Purchased by the second owner on 06/04/1994 at 9000 miles. As the third owner I purchased the car on06/07/2010 at 58,000 miles and registered on a private plate for sale with the car.
My use has been as a third car for use on sunny days, my other cars being a Mercedes E Class and a VW Golf.
I viewed many cars before finding this fine example and am aware of the rubbish described as good, my car must be one of the best low mileage examples on sale.
I am reluctantly selling the car as I am nearing 78 and my aches and pains are not allowing me to enjoy this wonderful car.
I am in Cornwall, Newquay airport has links with many parts of the Country and I would be happy to collect any prospective purchaser.
Many thanks for reading my ad. Any questions, please ask
A little out of thread budget but I've decided I need an SL and am considering flying over and buying this sight unseen (assuming it all works, is as described and not a hound). If it is a dog I'll be hitchhiking back to the mainland

Long time lurker, first time poster... In the Barge Thread!
So, I'm looking for a fast, reliable estate... The devil in me says to lease an NA C63 AMG before large, NA engines are no more but I thought I'd look at buying outright for similar money to the lease deposit.
It has to be an estate as I have a black Labrador and she needs the space (her travel crate is over 4ft long) and we'll probably do some long/ Euro trips... Well, I guess a 4x4 would work (we had an X5 3.0 in Houston) as well.
Fuel cost/ economy isn't an issue as this won't be used daily! Speed and comfort are the priorities!
Has anyone taken a look at any of these?
E55 AMG: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201134786888?_trksid=p20...
Audi S6: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191253847509?_trksid=p20...
C32 AMG: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321456997268?_trksid=p20...
C32 AMG: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181434899265?_trksid=p20...
The E55 AMG seems VERY cheap but I understand that is Merc's rusty era and the bork on these can be huge!
The Audi S6 looks good to me but what is the bork at that mileage?
I don't know much about C32s, they don't seem to be discussed on here much...
Thanks in advance!
Dom

Dom, you have quite literally come to the right place. If you are the same Dom that from memory, modfied a 996 C2 in all sorts of interesting ways then you appreciate the geekier side of cars... you have definitely come to the right place.
Now, a reasonably speedy barge. forget about leasing something new and fast. If you're putting a dog in it, it will get ruined and your wallet will be anally violated come handing back time. Besides, why would you even bother when there is such a cornucopia of good, much-used stuff around at penny stakes?
First decisions: how big does it need to be? You mention C and E class, the C class is not really an estate the E is huge. Secondly transmission - happy with an auto? Thirdly does it need to be RHD?
We'll leave aside such crude matters as money for the moment as the fact is you probably won't have to spend very much.
On the assumption that you need an E-size car, an auto is ok but it needs to be RHD I would be looking at the BMW 540i E39. Great 4.4 motor with plenty of poke and a great noise, brilliant interiors and still a reasonably-sized glasshouse. Then I'd drive a W124 E320 - not quick but definitely not slow, and 20mins behind the wheel will be enough to see if you 'get it'. If you don't mind an older car (which means cleaner lines, but more road noise and fewer toys) then an E34 540i is probably the only thing that could tempt me from my W124 wagon. If you don't mind LHD, check out the M5 Touring at Munich Legends. Probably the best fast estate ever!
Audi - steering is terrible and the engines never quite seem to be as interesting in reality as they are on paper (I'd take the BMW V10 over the RS6 one any day of the week) with the honourable exception of the 4.2 V8. Plus the interiors are very grey.
Also check out the Volvo 850R / V70. Very very capable cars and quicker than the displacement suggests.

An awful lot about that to like. Thin on maintenance detail though The fact it has a fanfare horn alone makes it worth a look! http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C492609

Just back from Singapore and the US and need to settle back down in the UK!
I have stayed away from the RS and M models as I believed the bork to be quite high!?
I do LOVE the e39 shape and that's a definite possibility... Not sure about Volvo!
I thought this BMW 550 looked interesting: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301240254665?ssPageName=...
Budget <10k ideally, would be nice to have T&T and few borkage worries!
Auto is good for an estate/ cruiser I reckon, though would prefer RHD!
This E39 540 in the PH classifieds looks interesting: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/b...
Not sure about the interior colour but it sounds well maintained and looked after and isn't too far away! Anything specific to look out for with these?

Mine averaged about 23-24 MPG over 30k miles, which consisted mainly of fairly hard driven, longish journeyshttp://www.realcar.co.uk/mercedes-benz_500se.htm

Anyway, that looks pretty good. Give him a call, and if the service history anything like adds up, book a flight. The only thing I don't like about it is the so-called private plate - those Irish ones always put me off when used inappropriately like this (BNZ FFS!)
Looks a good spec and a good ad. Haggle him down a bit and get it bought.

To be honest it will be a pain in the ass if he's 'economical with the truth' and I'll end up having to do an expensive last minute trip back from way out west. That's why I fancied the car cMoose went to look at as it was vetted by a threadist. Haven't heard back about that one and I want to do a road trip to Italy in an SL sometime soon.
Going to ask a few questions about the service history. I suspect the old boy won't be a haggler though.
For £3k where would be a good bet to place my money. Looking for a barge of some sorts as a step up from the R53 I currently drive. Petrol is a must due to low annual miles, and ideally leather and auto if possible.

That's an interesting shout, Andy! Haven't looked at one of those before...Don't worry, the Clio Williams will be coming off the road for a strip and rebuild, the estate will be for the dog AND there will be something more interesting as well... Hence why this has to be more 'budget' and not be riddled with bork!
That 540 just posted looks good/ good value but I think I must have an estate!
What about this old 'un. Preferred spec for me- pre facelift and SE so more comfortable on the UK's terrible roads. Alleged 1 owner car and sadly from a trader but there must be some haggle room in there. Interesting spec as well.
Leaves you quite a few grand over other cars for maintenance as well.

Once described as the best car in the World / only car you could ever need.
£3k nets you a good example. Watch out for gearbox troubles (Auto) and the crappy cooling system.
