one sniff of an AMG 6.3 complete with fake leather and rubber band tyres and terrible ride and we're queueing up to drop our pants
Have you been in, or driven one? Terrible ride? I didn't think so, more than adequate. You could counter this and say the W124 steers like a complete boat which doesn't inspire anywhere near as much confidence as a C63.one sniff of an AMG 6.3 complete with fake leather and rubber band tyres and terrible ride and we're queueing up to drop our pants
Fake leather? Only one I've been in had the upgraded leather, but it was real, of that I'm sure. The seats were absolutely superb and more comfortable/supportive than the W124 seats I went in.
Rubber band tyres? Do you mean a small sidewall? And that's a problem, how exactly? I think the ride is fine.....I'll admit the one I have driven (briefly) but spent a fair few miles in was on 18's, no 19's.
I had a ride in what I think was the tuner "rebellion"'s demo C63 coupe when I needed a pickup once from Petersfield to PCS in Horndean after having some barge-fettling done.
It was a bit meh for me. The interior was nothing like as special as I was expecting - the experience was really very rep-mobile...
Obviously the savage acceleration and outrageous noise piqued more than a glimmer of interest - but I don't think it's for me. Maybe when facelift 211 amgs are in budget.
My lottery daydream involves commissioning a hot RHD v8 124 wagon from mechatronik, brabus or classic centre.

Less coffee? Fake leather? Only one I've been in had the upgraded leather, but it was real, of that I'm sure. The seats were absolutely superb and more comfortable/supportive than the W124 seats I went in.

A pleasant enough colour combination and only £1,950 (so less than the bill I paid last weekend ) http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C527256

Living in Aberdeen I'm pretty jaded with the endless procession of grey, black or silver blinged-up AMG Mercs and S-Line Audis which seem to make up 90% of the traffic up here, and are often driven agressively by pushy, aggressive, speeding oil-industry idiots with more money than brain cells. I know, first world problems etc etc...
A Merc 190 or W124 or an old BMW gets far more attention from me. Sadly they are in short supply up here.
I've just bought an E36 BMW 325i in non-conformist maroon which I will be mostly driving sensibly in my own personal gesture of rebellion against the mindless German lease-car conformists....

Oh I'd keep the W124 as well, a W124 cannot be replaced one sniff of an AMG 6.3 complete with fake leather and rubber band tyres and terrible ride and we're queueing up to drop our pants
I do like that 6.3 engine though, it's clearly silly to put such a thing in a c-class.

The hypocrisy of my decision was not lost on my wife after month of gently persuading her of the wonders that behold behind the wheel of a wafty, but possibly not 100% reliable R129.She used strong words - words that would be banned on here.
/anyhoo, back to barging 90's (and 80's) style.

Funny how the W140 seemed like an in-yer-face capitalist symbol of conspicuous consumption when new but now looks really low-key and tasteful compared to the chavvy, blinged-up current offerings of Mercedes and Audi et al....

Oooh, that would test even the most tolerant of souls (of which I am not).Just remember you have a car outside that can be the recipient of your ire as you blame all the other road users for your HR dept's inability to do their job.
And those tyres can be edged just a little closer to replacement
As an aside, what has happened to Slippery?
He has been very quiet, which is not his usual style on here.

Nah. It still seems like that to me. W126 is *the* S-Class for me. Although I thought the W220 was a lot less in-yer-face than the 140.
The W126 is also classy, though to my eyes the W116 is even more handsome.I think it's the sheer size of the W140 that makes it slightly obnoxious, whereas the actual styling is very restrained, verging on bland.
These days it's all 'angry faces', ducts, DRLs, sloping headlamps, brash star symbols - tacky!
Or am I getting old?

Yup. Even Bruno Sacco thought the W140 was a mis-step. The W126 is just so sleek and understated.I wasn't really paying attention to cars at the time - was the W140 marketed as conspicuous consumption for potentates and assorted glitterati?
