Best Smoker Barges 1-5 large [Vol 7]
Discussion
Newer than some we've seen recently, but I rather like this, in its fantastic colours:

Much to like.

Shimmy should have been sorted with a premium priced car like this. It was on my 2.5K diesel touring at significantly less than purchase price 18 months ago. I hope he paid nothing like asking price.
Likely to be control arms plus fitting which has to be 250 quid if you're going to go Lemforder and someone else fitting them.

You aren't wrong. Me likey. Seen a few R129s around lately (do many sit around until the summer?) and they are good looking cars. Still, R230 pre-facelift is the SL for me. Gorgeous car imo, new one is far too vulgar for what, in my opinion, an SL should look like. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C525588

This is what I've already told him is the most likely cause (but could be a number of other things.Likely to be control arms plus fitting which has to be 250 quid if you're going to go Lemforder and someone else fitting them.

As you'll see in my next post, vendor would budge, my friend had taken a day aside to go all the way to Southampton and he would have walked had it not been for the advice of another friend of his who went with him.

Yes, one will probably find none of this is anything much especially in the context of a car of this price range. And the friend who went with him managed to convince him of this otherwise he would have just walked away I think. But you don't know him. I doubt he'll have it long!He seriously wanted MB to come and take the C63 back (112 miles on the clock) because he couldn't bear to look at it for the following:
(Damn! Image uploader not working for some reason?!)

Avoid the 320 then! What do you get from the 320d?
Getting back to barges, this looks rather nice: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

You should have contacted me Derin100, I'd have happily had a look at it!
Shimmy could (could!) be brake discs.
Yep, can be brakes as well.Shimmy could (could!) be brake discs.
I wasn't involved in buying it Ross. He just went off himself and did it. But thanks for the offer.
Thing is, even if you had, you'd have never satisfied him. He'd always find more things wrong, never takes then in the context of a car's age or mileage and then you end up feeling bad and like it's your fault...believe me I've been there!

True- only when braking though I'd have thought Mine still has a very, very small amount of vibration when braking hard from 120mph to 90ish or so but as the disks and pads are fairly recent all round I suspect it's a front wheel balance issue, particularly as it never shows it at any other speed.
I think the E39 is really sensitive to suspension/wheel balancing and geo setup.

I notice way more on the roads in summer than the rest of the year. Although mine is my daily. Having driven an r230 back to back a number if times the new car feels nothing compare to the old- cheaper and flimsier . derin100 said:

On a related kind of note my CEO who suddenly decided he wanted a daily classic and was looking at the BMW e28 520 (after seeing me use the old merc, refusual to listen to advice that an e28 is not suitable to a chap used to a Volvo XC90) told me he's just purchased an 11 year old Audi TT 225 convertible - I absolutely cannot be blamed for inspiring this so I'm rather relieved.
Regarding E39s I like them but the ones I see seem to be rusting like crazy. I spotted an M5 in the launch colour last week, looked great, but getting closer revealed that virtually every panel (including the boot, doors, wheel arches) was bubbling - so disheartening, not as bad as the E-class of the era but they seem to be getting there. I guess they are getting old (I remember the M5 on the front of Autocar )

As I said, I haven't seen or driven the car yet but the strange thing is the vendor's ad said that all the front end bushes had already recently been changed (using genuine BMW parts) and the car has only done 39K miles? Shouldn't really go through two sets of those bushes in such a few miles.
Might even be as simple as my friend and the seller didn't check the tyre pressures before he set off!

He's much younger than me but I've had to remind him on many occasions just how old some of my cars have been in the context of his own age e.g the E28s were made before he even went to Primary School i.e when he was aged 4 years old! He was only 14 years old when my E34 525i was made.
I'm going to enjoy every second of it when he comes round!

My understanding (very limited!) is that the bushes can quite often do with changing as they age regardless of mileage. I take it "your friend" ( to spread a malicious rumour!) did checks on the mileage though?SpeckledJim said:
