I had a beer with a chap yesterday that claimed he'd acquired a rust free E430.
I presume he bought it with magic beans as a load logger to take bushels of hen's teeth to his unicorn farm.

Excellent. The estates do seem to be more rust resistant particularly in dark colours, not rust resistant enough but better than the saloons.
I had one of these dark W210 estates, but a (shhh -diesel) until two years ago and only sold it at 225k miles. On the rust front I had just the slightest, teensy wheensy bit starting to appear on the wheel arches of a Y reg (2001) car. Drove brilliantly except for rather vague steering/handling (compared to a Turbo Saab). An AMG one probably has stiffer suspension, which was all my old barge really needed. Huge inside - it took a 2 metre long oak dining table with no trouble.

In 75,000 miles I had one £1300 repair other than regular servicing, tyres etc. Bargain.

"65k" c43 for £2,250. Rusty but then they all are without some correction. Thoughts?

Get it resprayed (they all need it anyway) and you have a nice c43?

Even with the rust, if it has that low mileage it should be more. The "too good to be true" price, the two-tone interior (I know it is the most common interior in these cars, but black for me) and being 330 miles away all stop me taking a look. I also would like the later, rarer, Tiptronic box - supposedly more robust.

To me the c43 sounds far better than the e39 M5, or the V10 in the subsequent M5/6. Lovely!

It's too good to be true though...

The Merc Indie that I used to use had one. The AMG specific gearbox broke. It cost him £5 Grand to fix...and that was doing the work himself.

£5k? That's got to be the cost of a brand new gearbox, right? If not more?!

Yes, I think it was.

I picked up the G wagon from my specialist on Thursday and he runs a C43 as a daily. He has a 55 engine and box ready to go in. I refuse to believe its £5k for a box. I've read on forums a recon box is £1500ish all in.

I have no direct experience, but have read of several £3.5-4k rebuilds so can quite believe £5k for a new box or really thorough rebuild. (About every 6 months for the last 3 or 4 years I fall into C43 musings - the box issues and two tone interiors eventually move me on!)

And the 'two tone' exterior (silver and rust).

I posted one of these a few months ago but it had 140000 miles.

Soon to be available in budget with sensible miles...Honda Legend 2006-on

At the other end of the scale, and really for the bargain basement thread, add a tax disc and you're into this thread

406 V6...although I wonder if the 407 is better?

2006 C6 2.7 HDi for £3600. The bonnet definitely needs the lacquer tended to, and the missing service history would be a huge worry. For the very brave only, but as cheap as I've seen one of these. Interesting that the advert says it's in Byker, and the description says Gateshead. Valley Drive definitely isn't in Byker. Otherwise, looks tidy.

I mentioned a few pages back that I was on the hunt for v8 equipped estate and I was considering selling the x308. Well, my impulsive car buying nature has once again prevailed, just put a deposit down on this...

1998 e55, I know there isn't much love for the w210 on here but this looks to have been well looked after and is pretty much perfect for our family needs. Picking it up next Sunday and of course it's at the other end of the country, well not quite but 20 miles from Heathrow so as good as. Flying down and must say i'm looking forward to the drive back to Glasgow.

The other side of all this is that I now NEED to sell the x308. So if anyone is in the market for a well maintained 4.0 then give me a shout. Pulling an advert together tomorrow. I'm sure Ross will vouch for me wink
That looks great. I do like the looks of the estates and they ride well enough from the ones I have been in. What's the rust situation?! I had a beer with a chap yesterday that claimed he'd acquired a rust free E430 - the V8 in these appeals.
It's had a lot of bodywork professionally done, two new front wings recently, no rust anywhere on the body which as we know is rare on the w210. It's done 114000 miles so not moon miles and has a recent gearbox fluid and filter change so should be good for a while yet.
Good luck but travelling a long way to look at a 210 is not a good idea! They have a nasty habit of looking half decent in photos but in reality being totally rotten with bubbling to every edge and seam.

Bodywork repairs can just mean a tonne of filler and a dust over so check as you would a classic.

Putting a deposit down was brave too! Fingers crossed for you chap.
