Surely that could be had for £3.5k?
I'm looking for something to lug around a few mountain bikes- that looks ideal. Few miles per year so dont care its a petrol.

Anyone on here got one of these?
They spent so much money on repairs they now cannot afford the monthly broadband package to reply to your query biggrin

Only joking! I always fancied one after I had the classic 3.5 RR but never had the bottle to go through with it. If your going old I think its best to stick with the classic shape RR as they are much easier/cheaper to maintain or go for the L322 model as they are getting to the 5k mark for a V8 model.

Hard to imagine why I'm holding back on this one. Apart from a lack of funds, the distance, the inevitable uxorial displeasure. That and the misplaced model designation. Oh yes, the bullst is a bit rank, too. Still, nice looking motor.

Edit: unspecified mileage and the unmentioned dent in the rear end further turn me off. Bloody traders.

Clever use of the seat covers to lighten up the interior which would be brown overkill otherwise.

These cars can do 50mpg. Going downhill.

Nice car for the coin. Almost identical mileage to my 7. Some days I do wish I had an estate. But I do prefer the 7 for its sheer size and space inside! The interior feels massive (especially after spending the weekend in a corsa!

Looks like my 9-5 aero is a write off. I recently found the 500 litre boot of the Saab too small so an estate is the way forward. And who doesn't want a V8?!

Sorry to hear about the car, that's a real shame.

Get the 545i. The engine is a great lump but there are a few things to check on these. Oil and coolant leaks, gearboxes. Minor oil leaks are really quite common but not a major issue. Mine does leak, if I were to hazard a guess I'd say it uses around 500ml every 3k miles or so. I don't think it's anything worth worrying about but may be something I'll look into more detail early next year. As long as the oil pressure is fine it's all good. Keeps the oil fresh, too.... Right?!

That's what my father in law thinks. If the car is burning/leaking oil it never needs an oil change! He's not an automotive engineer though...

Provided I get what I want for the Saab I'm not too sorry to see it written off, especially if I can keep driving it until I find a replacement.

Even with the associated costs of getting this back to the mainland, this would be an interesting prospect:

I had one of those Lexi, bought in 1996, sold 120,000 miles later (with 183,000 on the clock) in 2002, still going strong with 224,000 on it two years later. Fantastic car, effortless cruiser. Make sure the centre dash display is still working, and don't forget that as well as the ferry you will have £250 of VAT to pay at the ferry terminal in the UK (or when you try to re-register it in the UK).

I did have a few issues during the earlier part of my ownership, luckily for me under a three year Lexus warranty (on a 5 year old car). I paid the VAT element, so know the cost of repairs was over £5,000. But its a Toyota, so should go on for ever.

Have spent much of the morning wondering what to replace the 9-5 aero with.
I’d like an estate this time and for a more interactive driving experience than the Saab. I think I’ll have about £5k or so to spend. I’m not sure if I need the performance of the 9-5 aero but it is nice to have…
So far I have thought about:
BMW E61/91
Volvo V50/70 T5
Another 9-5 aero but in estate form as it’s not been a bad car
And out of left field a mk2 Skoda Octavia VRS estate.
Am I missing any options?

Mercedes W211, difficult to find a V8 but not impossible. Huge carrying capacity compared to most of those listed.

Buy the 545i above, you'll love it. The remote locking is probably a £200 diversity aerial fix at worst.

Tempting. Let's hope it's for sale when my cheque comes through. I dread to think what the economy around town is though!

So do I hehe

But the reality is no worse than a Legacy I suspect (they like a drink). It's a far better steer than a W210 which is more of a barge, and a 9-5 which is a worthy but ultimately uninvolving FWD machine with a bit of straight line grunt. IMO.
