I'm a bit out the bargain loop this week but this is in danger of going ridiculously cheap. Must be one of the very first, don't see many SL500 r129s on a G plate.

Of course one of us would have it fixed in an hour for a few quid ;-)

£2300 looks very cheap. I had it in my watch list. Thank goodness I missed the end of the auction. If I bought another R129 she really would go spare. hehe

Knew these things would be a bit gutless, but didn't think it would be that low (I was thinking ~220ish)

Enough of that talk! wink
less weight = more performance and mpg though?

suprisingly low geared actually..... 80mph is 2500rpm. the morning commute managed 20.2 MPG biggrin

Headlamps and Bluetooth apart, a new BMW has nothing to teach an old BMW.

E39 SEs do nothing for me. Just looks like an old car in a terrible colour combination I'm afraid. And also to the vast majority of punters it seems given the amount of time it's been on sale.

This has been posted before - I think the price has been lowered since however.

Outside of any other appeal, an E39 SE has a ride quality that you can't really buy any more.

I'd agree that the E39 is very good in the ride dept, my Sport was excellent, if a little soft. I find mine is just the way I like it - subjectively I'd say around 15-20% firmer, although it still gets a bit wallowy when you're pushing on (but then it is a 1.8 tonne estate!)

They really did get the interior right with the E39. It looks so welcoming.

That must be the worst colour I have seen on a E39 hurl.

I can't believe this is still for sale, granted the add is crap, though I check it daily biggrin

Best colour combo on a E39 personally

Yeah never a good sign, unless it has gone and they've just not bothered to take the ad off. Her SLK is still up too.

After my USA holiday (and my forum review of the Chrysler 300) I have become a little obsessed with cars from over the water.

What do the assembled bargistas think of this

Colour I'd have to see, but I like the idea of SE not Sport. Has anyone here been to see it to find out why it's been for sale for so long? It is very appealing, though I'm not sure I'd get a 4.4 V8 past my wife. No chance of 27ish mpg average is there? (I can't go any thirstier than the Saab I want to replace.)

Basically no. I think in mixed driving you'd probably average low 20s at best. It might sneak up to 30 on an individual run if you cruise at 65-70 on the motorway.

Def. no chance of 27 ave. hehe my 540 OBC showed an average of 18 mpg, that was mainly round town driving, think I managed an average of 29 on a longish run with cruise set at 80.

Looking at the official figures, the x50i engine is supposed to be a good 10% better. I average about 16mpg - urban, short journeys.

ETA perhaps more of an accurate pointer is my old 528 which barely managed 20 and if I'm being honest was probably doing far less most of the time.
