Has anyone run fuel system/injector cleaners in their barges?

I put a can of BG44K in my s124 yesterday, and I swear it does seem to be going better after only 20 miles. A bit smoother and a bit keener to pick up, but the stuff may affect the octane rating causing the latter.

Worthwhile maintenance or an automotive placebo?
i have used the BG stuff and it seems ok, but for a real difference i recommend Terraclean.
i was VERY sceptical at first so used the other half's BMW 120D as a test and was astounded at the improvement, still am..
Then had it done on the Saab and again, huge improvement.
Not cheap at around £100 but in my experience, well worth it!

Does it make much of a difference on petrol engines?

Back in love with the s124 again, following last weeks rift. Went to get the air on checked over, expecting Bork and it actually only needed regassed! Got a thumbs up from the guy with no issues, but I'm going to get a new blower motor as it isn't that powerful.

Singing its praises again today. Fab ride quality, great visibility, great boot, usefully low loading lip. The latter is great when you have 2 Basset hounds: they can jump straight in.
Have you tried changing the cabin filter?

They restrict the airflow when they get clogged up.
Quick thank you to BrownBottle for suggesting the cabin filter replacement on the 124. Just fitted it and it has made a considerable difference- I now have perfect, air-conditioned ventilation! Highly recomended for poor airflow.

Some before and after pics- given that they had an MB part number (1248350047), they might have been in there between 10-19 years!

That's bloody lovely. Top money but in theory, it's a turn-key sale and away you go. Little to do to it.

Glad to be of help.

That looks like the one that came out my E34, I could barely demist the windscreen!
Very satisfying when you change a filter in that condition.

For me it did.
Engine is smoother, quieter and certainly more responsive.
mpg showed a slight increase (nothing like the BMW that went up, and stays at 6 mpg more than before).
So yes i would say it made a good enough difference.

I glanced past this and first of all thought it was a Mitsubishi Galant! Something up with the wheel size/ ride height / spoiler combo that definitely makes it look like one.

Maybe something for you Ross?
Then you could sell the BMW and you would not even have to advertise it as i would be at the front of the queue wink

That's some serious driving! How many stops did you take? I suppose doing 400 miles to get somewhere, then 400 miles back you'd probably only need 1 or 2 stops during each trip with that "break" between the trips? Good effort though R129sl, I'm just looking forward to giving the 745i a good couple of runs over the next couple of weeks. It doesn't do many short trips (commute 20 miles each way) but I don't do many long trips either which I class as over 100miles, but really only done 1 trip over 200 which was when I bought it in October last year now!
I used to drive until the fuel ran out but now I stop about once every 250miles. Going down to Swansea and back I stop once in each direction. If I have to be there early, I break overnight at Worcester Premier Inn or Oswestry Travelodge.

Some time ago now I fell asleep at the wheel a couple of times and, while nothing bad happened, it made me realise that once tiredness sets in I have to take a decent break. It's funny, when I was younger I did even more driving than I do now and it had little effect. These days a long drive (which I'd put at 400miles in a day) leaves me tired for a couple of days afterwards. The 124 is easier than the 140 but then the 140 I was driving is itself a bit on the tired and worn side. Having to make constant adjustments at the wheel is hard work. It is also a very big car compared with the 124. Yesterday I came up through Lampeter and Tregaron and while it was beautiful country it was a lot of effort pressing it up narrow roads without losing time.

A fantastic looking car, and it is looking more and more likely that an X308 XJ will end up on my drive next. I've had to join a private parking scheme for work now as we're moving offices, and having looked at the car parking spaces, I'm concerned the LS400 I had considered would be a bit big for some of the spaces. They're average sized, but in the old car park there were no markings and one could park as they liked. The XJ is just as long but seems a little narrower. There are also a lot more XJ's to choose from! This is despite putting the two to a vote via PH recently and the LS400 tending to win the recommendation...

Have you tried an X308 XJ up close? They are beautiful things but they could not be more different from the E65. The Jaguar feels a world apart from even it's contemporary competition with it's classic styling. Some of the interior touches are dreadful (a tape player on a late 90's Luxury car?), some of them sublime. For a massive car, the interior doesn't half shrink around you and the low seating position and long bonnet make it feel very much the individual. The drive is fantastic though.

I suspect jag are not the only ones guilty of this, pretty sure my 1998 S500 had a tape player, as well as CD changer.

My '99 E39 had one as did both of my '01 Volvos.

Don't knock tape players. I have endless customers bemoaning the lack of them in new cars. You'll be surprised how many people actually still use them.

I'm going to look at a 2000 V70 that has both cassette and CD player. Which means my old mix tapes don't go to the landfill just yet.

Do they also bemoan the lack of wax cylinder players too? :-)

I need to get one of those convert tape to MP3 jobbies. then I can go for a driveless head unit and have all my tunes stored in the car.
