Utterly wrong, of course. Yet it's hard to not want to have a go in it - "Big 7.5 Litre V8". http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1972-Lincoln-Continental...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, the opera style rear windows and spare wheel humped trunklid are definitive style elements for the sporty gentelman. I would love to have something like this only to drive it up and down in front of the eco-green party headquarters....all 460 cu.in. producing a whopping 220 hp.
Maximum bargness. The Olds Toronado was also nice, but the most stylish of all has to be the Buick Riviera.

Another good call Oa with that Citroen. I remember as kid getting shipped about in one of these.

With regards to the American motors, I remember my dad having a Chevy Blazer ( RHD )in the early '80s. 30 odd years on I can still remember the V8 rumble.

The hydraulic is kept at the front, in the tank at the nearside front of the engine bay. But I doubt it's that. The hydraulic and steering fluids are like ATF: reddish brown, gloopy, oily. You'd also know about it in those volumes because the suspension might sag and certainly would hiss or the steering would groan. Likewise I doubt you'd have brake fluid leaking in that quantity without knowing about it (no brakes). Washer fluid, while blue, would not stand out like that. That leaves coolant. That's my bet.
Thanks! Will start investigating tonight- hopefully a loose hose or the like...

Absolutely! I could never work out whether I prefer the Riviera or the Continental. The clam headlights may just swing it for the Riviera though! Both fabulous cars.

Am I the only one who thinks that yank tank is fecking hateful, then? Having been in something similar on a couple of occasions when I was last in the States, it just clarified that all the reviews about how awful they actually are weren't just European snobbery.

Probably not - I love going in old yank tanks when I'm in the US (though it's becoming harder as they are disappearing as Taxis etc), they are very much built for long straight American roads and do that very well.

Like American beers that are designed to be served freezing cold (compared to our real ales) they reflect the country they sell in!

You must have some desire to drive the big tank above? It'll be woeful compared to E65 or W124 but that's kind of the point

Nice.

I think the advert could be improved though by saying the aircon only needs a regas and it has the expensive optional sports rear suspension.

I agree, I love American cars - in America.

Just imagine what a knob you would feel driving a car like that through Letchworth (or anywhere else really. Except Oxford, that would probably be enjoyable).

Oh come on it's a crock

I sold one which I took in px against a 760Li from a Lord no less!!! which we had serviced and maintained for five years as an independent BMW specialist... tried at £2995 plenty of brain dead questions but no viewers, at £1995 it found a home, PS all the other 750i examples for strong money are still for sale three months later.

Just as well it was valued correctly at a grand, we fixed the central locking with an ECU £200 ouch, otherwise mechanically a1l good even new rear suspension bushes for mot and full geo.

bks, quite frankly. WTF has trade price got to do with private sales, or the fact that you bought a car from a Lord? rolleyes

A car is worth whatever someone will pay for it. There's a lot of ropey old E38s out there with leaking petrol tanks - I know, I looked at most of them before I bought this one.

A question to the A8 owners...

Any pointers on specifics I should be looking for as I start viewing these?

I am aware of the requirement for seeing the cambelt has been changed and the electrics can be tempremental, but anything else?

I have also noted, to get a good one I may have to go beyond thread budget, but I want to find one that is spot on.

I finally realised that while I admire the E65 and the Lexus is excellent at what it does, I have to follow my heart and buy an A8 with full V8 goodness! smile

Heck even the other half has tacitly approved!

I have to say though that 645i that was posted a couple of pages back did tempt me, but the lack of rear space would be a bind with having to ferry 2 kids around regularly.

Mercedes is out as while I like them I don't want something that will have me looking at the bodywork for tin worm every week and there is the minor concern of eye watering bork potential!

Maybe I should just try and persuade Slippery to part with his? wink

By the way..Oa what is with the American stuff?
Dear god they are some seriously ugly cars (although the new Charger Hellcat has me almost wanting to get a move to the USA!)

Baronyx,

Much as I admire the D2 I am looking at a D3.

I will be honest, it has more toys, and I prefer the look of it (I know, I am a philistine wink).

I have read all your very well written experiences with your old one, and it was one of the key factors in deciding to go for one.

The 4.2 is a must as much as I may want the W12 (and it would be the closest I would ever get to being Jason Statham, much to the other half's disappointment!) I think the running costs may make an SL55 AMG seem reasonable!

Good luck, air suspension not working, plus other issues, anything over £2k buy a Bollinger!

As for previously owned by a Lord well that's demographics.

It's hydraulic suspension, but then what do I know...?

Any 750 at this price will have issues, it's just a case of whether the seller is honest about them or tries to hide them like some dodgy back street car salesman.

I think the point being made is that they are difficult to shift full stop, let alone with fairly scary sounding issues and fairly strong money.

Pretty sure that's the same model year that 'Frog One' imported into NY in 'The French Connection' - dope hidden in the rocker panels.
