Chaps, do we rate Old Colonel cars? Reassuringly expensive or overpriced?

Post it up Phil!

I've no experience of buying from him but I think my overriding impression having viewed his site in the past is that some are toppy and some seem good value.

Are you serious?

It's a 540i badged on the rear as an Alpina, sporting a hideous fake Alpina bonnet badge and even more hideous Alpina badges on the number plates. Does it have eyebrows on the rear light clusters?! I will grant it looks mechanically well cared for but just no, no and seven times no. Wrong.

Rant over! hehe

I think you're being harsh. Change your name to Alan Pina and you've got a car named after you, right there.

I'm with you here, but I would say it would be very easy to get rid of the badges on the boot, the bonnet and new plates, and you have a sub 50k mile 540i.

I'm confused as to why there are holes in the rear bumper, or are the park sensors black?

Get rid of the Alpina badges and I like that an awful lot and the price doesn't seem bad for the condition it (purports to be) in!

I could even live with the private plate, I think!? Definitely needs debadging though.

I might even be tempted by different wheels...

Wonder what that exhaust sounds like!?

Could this be fine if I put it into my mechanic, or is it really worth 6p (the current bid)?

Looks good but noisy cam could be oil spray bar problems? Mix of 3 different brands of budget tyres as well. I think you could be in for an immediate big spend on that if you bought it. The blue one I posted a few weeks back with sub 100k and which went for £700 ish looked a much better bet.

In other news 0a your old e23 is back on the market again, after I purchased it and my mate dinged it I required him to buy it from me which he did. He has now sourced the parts to put it right but with a new job and e30 m52 328i project he feels he is never going to get round to it;

Hope it goes to a good home.

Standard 540i with a horrible and incongruous mish-mash of Sport kit and ALPINA tat, Paddy plate and wikkid 'zorst.

I'd give it a very wide berth.

It's neither within thread budget nor a barge but it's pretty much my perfect e91 spec.

Are those sport seats?

That looks rather good actually. I might have bought that instead of me latest E39 if it had been available at the time.
Yes, those are sports seats, for what they're worth (actually I always preferred the standard ones on the E46 and E90 but it's all to do with the shape of the individual driver).

Slowly, no real progress for months. The downside of using a mate who only charges me mates rates is that he can only fit it in when he has time, it is also stored somewhere which makes it very hard getting it in and out to work on.

I have had a fleet clear out though, selling the 750 and my Audi Quattro estate. The e23 above will also be off my drive in a week or so hopefully.

I have had a good clear out of our garage as well so once the 560 SEC is mot'd I will get it down to my place and into my garage so I can work on the interior, clean it thoroughly, fit a becker and work out what paint it needs. Once that's all done I want to find a good classic Merc specialist to get it for an engine tune up / fettle. This is all very optimistic I suppose :-)

How is the W124 V12 project coming along? I spotted a 6.0 v12 (m120?) on ebay recently for £1k and thought of your project...

Nice. Would prefer cow but if you like it - get it bought. Pre-LCI but the price seems alright.
