Given the uber-expensive number plate that could be a diamond in the rough. bmthnick1981 said:
Slowly, no real progress for months. The downside of using a mate who only charges me mates rates is that he can only fit it in when he has time, it is also stored somewhere which makes it very hard getting it in and out to work on.
I have had a fleet clear out though, selling the 750 and my Audi Quattro estate. The e23 above will also be off my drive in a week or so hopefully.
I have had a good clear out of our garage as well so once the 560 SEC is mot'd I will get it down to my place and into my garage so I can work on the interior, clean it thoroughly, fit a becker and work out what paint it needs. Once that's all done I want to find a good classic Merc specialist to get it for an engine tune up / fettle. This is all very optimistic I suppose :-)
How is the W124 V12 project coming along? I spotted a 6.0 v12 (m120?) on ebay recently for £1k and thought of your project...
It hasn't moved on at all! I'm in a similar situation to you in that it's a mate doing it, and he's been flat out. That, combined with a lot of other expenses, has meant that it probably won't run until this time next year...I have had a fleet clear out though, selling the 750 and my Audi Quattro estate. Look forward to more updates on the 560: have been sorely tempted by one for ages, and this month's Mercedes Enthusiast doesn't help.

It's neither within thread budget nor a barge but it's pretty much my perfect e91 spec.
Are those sport seats?

Nice. Would prefer cow but if you like it - get it bought. Pre-LCI but the price seems alright. Are those sport seats?

LCI is mainly cosmetic isn't it? Just waiting for an insurance pay out and I may be on my way to view.
GIYF but I believe the iDrive was vastly improved post LCI, as well as the other stuff.0a said:

Chaps, do we rate Old Colonel cars? Reassuringly expensive or overpriced?
Recently bought a BMW E36 325i coupe from him. I thought the price was reasonable at £2.6k, at least compared with the cost of good Merc 190s I had been considering previously, but with the classifieds full of sub-£1k private sale E36s I suppose many would call it expensive.
It's a sound car in good, original condition but has required some work (new brakes all round and some new brake pipes). Nothing major though.
Was an easy enough guy to deal with and willing to oblige me by storing the car until I could get down to collect it, and meeting me at Hertford station.
Car was presented in excellent condition and all the features/functions etc. were thoroughly explained to me before I set off home.

LOL - That is how I roll! Perhaps I don't need an estate after all... [scratches chin]I've tried to sort out my insurance for test driving (and likely driving home) the Jaguar for this weekend. What a fking carry on. My insurer (those with a ranking officer in the navy type name) have rubbished the idea. Speaking to the bloke on the phone, his first question was "does the other vehicle have a policy of insurance?". Answering honestly, and without knowing the truth but assuming this to be the case, I said "I believe so". He then said the only way I would be able to test drive it would be to get myself added as a named driver on the active policy, because vehicles can't have two policies active at the same time.
When I challenged him over this, his excuse was 'because it's not technically right' and could not be more specific than that. I then said "but surely, the owner's current policy would be dependent on him being the owner? If I buy it, he's then no longer the keeper and his policy would then cease, but I wouldn't be able to drive the car home". The bloke flim-flammed me for a bit longer before I decided to stop paying my own money to argue with this idiot.
I hope that this has not thrown a terminal spanner in the works. I'm already in for a £25 train ticket! It also is frankly annoying when you ring up expecting customer service and get broken English from the speaker on the other end. Again, adding to my phone bill because the speaker is hard to understand and needs to stop and think about what he is saying. Extremely unimpressive service and potentially dissatisfying enough to see an end to several years of insuring with these cowboys.

In theory he is correct - it is to prevent those of dubious intent taking out multiple policies prior to creating a crash for cash scenario and then claiming on multiple policies when their mates crash into them. I believe it's a fairly recent change but does call into question a lot of companies offering these 1 day policies, unless the car has no insurance in place at all.
I looked into this when I wanted to test drive a private sale S4 and in the end I agreed with the seller that I would pay to be added to his insurance on the S4 for the day.
If you take out 1 day cover (or your own policy) you are also causing problems for yourself as in the event of making a claim if 2 companies become aware they are both covering the vehicle it'll be a competition to see which will cancel their cover quickest (because somewhere in the small print it'll say you can't have 2 policies on the car) and worst case neither will pay out.

It's horsest. Vehicles do not have insurance policies: people do, usually proprietors, lessors, lessees, drivers and/or (less likely) passengers. Those policies provide "cover" against "risk" to the "insured" who must have an "insurable interest" in the subject matter of the policy. Being the driver of a particular car would be a sufficient interest. There is no reason why my any-car-any-driver policy should provide me with comprehensive cover against risk arising from my use of your car at the same time that your policy provides you with cover against risk arising from your use of your car.
Why don't you just take out a day long or week long policy with one of those online people?
