When he says that the M5 engine has done 15,000 miles, I take it he means since it was fitted to his car! laugh
E28's are really nice cars, but I really do prefer the E34 by some margin. That said, an E34 M5 powered E28 would really get a good shift on!

Glorious engines.

I've also personally spent a £2-3k at Fritz's Bitz over the years, not been for a good 3 years now since I sold the E21. They're good down there IMO.

Good to hear Ross! I like the genuine rat look (ie the car overheated and this damaged the paint) and I love e28s.

Is the 745 now back to full health?

It is indeed smile

Just need to sort insurance out as renewal is early October. It has worn outer edges on the front tyres but the rest of the tyres are fine....definitely legal. I'm tempted to just leave them for another few months yet and get new tyres a little later down the line and get a new microfilter (due in 4700 miles) at the same time.

I think I've decided to get "normal" service items and general "easy to do" jobs by these guys

http://www.micheldever.co.uk/

as I can get it done cheap there and I know they do good quality work. When it comes to more specialised stuff I won't hesitate to go to the indy. I'll get them to investigate the cause of the wearing to the outer edges on the same day it gets new tyres. Either I've been cornering too hard or it may have worn track control arms or something but not sure.

I saw that too when I clicked on the link for Derins old car. I thought it looked a bit cheap. No mention of mileage in the ad so assume galactic.

Cooling refurb done on the E39, all Behr and Meyle parts. Rad, water pump, viscous fan, expansion tank, top and bottom hoses, belts = £375 plus coolant (£11 a litre at BMW, 6 required). Mates rates labour and we're talking about £600. Oh, and a hedgehog. I'm going to change the timing chain tensioner as its an easy job and apparently might prevent damage to the guide rails. Funny thing is, I think I've been extremely lucky so far!

Beyond ridiculous! VW charge around £6 for 1.5 litres of their genuine coolant that makes 4.5 litres when you add water!

Similar here - last stuff I bought was Pug/Citroen stuff for £8 which makes 6L at correct strength.

Been around for a while. And yes - galactic mileage. Over 200k if memory serves.

And it's in Chesham, which (like Croydon, Keighley and "near Heathrow") always seems to be a place from which cars should not be bought.

Yes, the chap I sold it to about 6 years ago sadly passed away earlier this year and that's his brother selling it.
