That looks absolutely splendid. Quite hard to make out as the pictures are pretty small but if that's as clean as it looks inside and out that's a proper bargain. Right colour exterior, right interior. Edited by 0a on Wednesday 16th April 12:07

Gotta be a nice one this, a tonne of maintenance done.

I thought the vendor had changed his mind and decided to keep it? Looks nice, like the colour and as you say, plenty of recent work done. Good value i.m.o. but the market disagrees.http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/classifieds-cars-sa...
I did have one very genuine enquiry from a local chap who came to view twice. The second time he paid to insure it for 24hrs and went away on a test drive in it. He came back saying it was too big and would prefer a 300CE instead.
I am debating taking it to Southern Italy in July to stretch its legs.

Just as well the £300 offer was via e-mail. "What would you say to £300?" "What would you say to a smack in the face?"

Absolutely no idea to be honest, I'm not too spanner handy....I've had a look at the spring at can't see any cracks as such.
At least 1 suspension arm needs doing as there is a judder from high speed braking - I'm not sure what suspension parts can cause creaking on slow speed bumps?
I'm not joking when I say I can't notice it AT ALL when driving normally; be it around town or on the motorway. It's just like coming off dropped kerbs etc really.....
Any other thoughts?
I don't need the car THAT much in the next week. It's booked in on Friday but due to work hours I'll be taking it to them on the Wednesday, I won't need the car sunday-Tuesday anyway so I reckon it'll get looked at in around 100 miles of driving, maybe 150 absolute most.
If it's a spring, I'll get both front shocks and springs doing....and if the suspension arms need doing I'll see if they can do that as well.
Just need to make sure I get it back for Mercedes-Benz World now
Well, I should be able to collect it on the Saturday anyway. They said they'll order in the springs/shocks and if it isn't that, they'll send them back so at least IF it's that then it'll definitely be sorted for MB world.
Whilst it's out....Is there anything that will be significantly easier to change that'll be worth doing, like bushes etc? Might as well make a job of it and give the front end a good overhaul I guess....
edit - regards ride height, I can get 3-4 fingers width between the tyre and the arch on the NSF, yet the OSF is nearer 2-3 fingers width, so not a huge difference but it's definitely noticeable. Could just be a tired shock? Had it on the E38 before I had them replaced.
The shocks won't affect ride height, but it could be just the bottom of the spring has broken and it is now sitting slightly lower in the spring cup. My CLS broke the OSF spring when 4 years old - crouching under the car, you could slide a broken piece of spring up and down the strut, with the car sitting on the bump stop - no way could you drive it far. MB paid 90% of cost as a goodwill gesture, didn't mention doing the pair. January this year (car 7 years and a few months old) NSF broke - same scenario. When car was trailered in, dealership rang to say both rear springs were broken - I hadn't even noticed, and when I got the removed parts back, the fractures were rusted suggesting it had been like that for some time, so it could be the same with your car - just the bottom broken, so barely noticeable (cue criticism of my driving and observation skills). Just to show what a problem modern springs are, last week the OSF spring (not yet 4 years old) collapsed when the car was parked on the drive. 5 springs in 7.5 years and 94,000 miles - not great. (Must resist bringing in 124 reference at this point!).
I would not assume you automatically need to change the shock absorber(s) when the spring breaks.
But would there be tangible benefit in changing the shock(s) if I get the spring(s) done? They must be getting a little tired on a 2 tonne car and 113k miles?
I'll have a chat with my indy Wednesday when I drop the car off, and mention things like ball joints etc. Hopefully it's nothing too expensive. I'll just keep the car driving to a minimum. I think 100 miles is all I'll need, hopefully!

I know it's not the same car, but a friend replaced the entire suspension on his Audi S8 after near enough 200k miles with a quality aftermarket kit - there was virtually no difference in ride and the old shocks weren't leaking. He was quite disappointed!I would definitely replace springs in pairs and if the shocks need doing, do them in pairs too. If they aren't leaking or rusty I would be tempted to leave them be unless they're stupendously cheap, since there'll be no increase in the labour bill really.

Given you'll probably sell it soon, my advice is 'stop hosing your money into it'.

I quite like that. It's got the usual faults and foibles, and I prefer the coupes to be in darker colours, but looks like a decent motor with solid provenance.
If the rust isn't too bad, I reckon the post-haggle cost would be sensible. Good spot.
After all this book-talk, it feels like a long time since we've seen a 124.

Someone was asking about 124 cabs a while back (Vol 6). There are some around close to thread budget, and although this ad is light on meaningful detail, this looks a good place to start:

Great colour.

... and this a/c "just needs reconnecting". Whateveeeer.

Someone really should buy it all the same just so the rest of us can sit back and watch what happens
