The pattern wing - was it an easy fit? I'm going to need a nearside, possibly offside too and wondered what would be best to go for: pattern or MB original (are those still available?)

I like a bonnet star, but not with the grille star; two together are very wrong.

There is, predictably, an MB 'system' as to what cars get what adornment. Sportier get it on the grille, and 'comfier' on the bonnet. I think.
Worst of all - there will probably be a nasty hole in the bonnet if you take it off as it wasn't fitted as a replacement of the badge. You might have to plate, fill and respray the entire bonnet.

750i went for £890, potentially a bargain.
They're all potentially a bargain!
I think the 750's have a bad rep on here! I'm on my second and both have been bought at the lower end of thread budget. Yes the current one is in having some suspension work done, but most E39's, E38's and, dare I say it W124's, need some suspension work as they are all older cars. In my experience if you can stomach the fuel costs a 750 is a good reliable car if subject to the usual e38 foibles of course. I think one key advantage is that given the vast majority of people's fear of the fuel consumption the cars can be bought very cheaply, and the M73 V12 is, in my opinion, truly excellent. I think many are being broken up for bits now, so my advice would be grab one while you can!

Fantastic Nick. I've heard that generally the V12s are quite reliable engines. As long as they're well maintained I think they're fine. Same with most to be honest.

Any updates on the suspension work? If you've never been in an E65 and fancy a spin out in mine next Sunday give me a shout (or anyone else who's going).

Hopefully the creaking would have gone by then! Not noticeable at all when driving normally, just slow speed bumps.

I think that on the later 24valve engines you need a different throttle body and possibly also a different engine ECU. Anyway, the only thing that would be "wrong" with a decent aftermarket system is that it is not original. but if you're not bothered about that, then it is probably the easier way to go.

You're right about that. Calypso Red? Lovely. What's the new one?

Yes red one is Calypso.

"New" one is Oxford Green short wheel base V12 currently in having bushes and arms done.

Hmm, I'd rather have a SWB 750i.

Back to 124s... Hard not to like this, though it may bust the budget: http://www.mtsv.co.uk/info/300CESSA1.htm

Looks lovely in Calypso!

I agree, I had an E32 750i SWB a few years ago, picked up for a song, even had good EDC dampers on it. They are a lot less complex than the later M73 found in the E38, as it was basically 2 x M20 lumps, with two of everything, piece of cake to do maintenance on (apart from No. 12 plug...) Only sold it as I was running a SIII XJ6 at the same time and one of them had to go.

That's a beauty. I'd almost feel guilty about using it at all in that condition with that mileage.

I'd guess it might go for around £6k based on the 300CE-24 that was recently sold with a similar equipment spec and mileage...

Was looking at that earlier today. It's sure to be above thread budget, though maybe not by much.

He impresses me too. His site oozes enthusiasm and honesty (daft, I know, but it just does...)

That car looks a peach. He doesn't often seem to have estates otherwise he'd be on my speed-dial.

I'm afraid to say I don't know. Barry Price at multi-tech fitted it and didn't moan about it. To my eye it looks fine but I wouldn't know how to spot q bad one really. I think I was told the tell take sign is the point where the wing bonnet and headlight meet, but that looks fine to me too.

MB original are still available I believe, have been refenerenced in either this or r129sl's titivation thread recently.

Cheers, I might well start some advanced hankering and shopping around shortly,
