I've always liked these. This one looks perfect: the colours, the 2.8litre motor, the manual transmission, the big spec, the price.

The trade seller sounds dodgy as fk. How can he claim all cars sold as seen unless they have a manufacturers warranty? Dodgy .

MOT till December? *shiver*

(Could easily view that so making excuses not to.)
Why not view, but only for the benefit of the other bargeistas, natch. Ready-made excuse for the Mrs.
Sounds a bit timewastery to me. I'd be annoyed if someone did it to me as a seller.

The only 3.0 with an E36 was an early M3. If they prefer the 2.8 to that they're nuts. Unless you mean the 3.0 that came with the E46? In which case.... Hmmm, not sure. The 3.0 makes more power (even after the manifold change), is more efficient etc).
Typo, sorry ,meant E46

Really? Surely, whenever anyone pitches up to view they may or may not go on to buy the car. They may or may not be looking to buy it for themselves, a relative, a friend, whatever.

It seems to me that you often need pretty thick skin as a seller, and if you get upset by someone viewing on behalf of others, you're probably in for some sellers angst.

I suppose that's a fair point. In this specific case however, the car's near my Mum's house, which is 200 hundred miles from me, so it's an easy view if I want to make a trip to see my Mum, so I'd only go on a trip to view the car with a view to wanting it myself, I'm not driving 400 miles to view for the edification of others!

Gearboxes are a known weak spot on the W211, especially the earlier cars like this. More specifically the radiator / oil cooler is a weakness so I would look for evidence of this being done at the same time.

Given the PO has spent £5k on a gearbox I suspect not much else is borked. Car is not too far from me either....

Long time lurker here with fairly few posts in this thread.

Bit of a background, I've had a manual E36 328i, an E36 M3 Evo, two auto E46 330is and currently have a manual E46 M3.

Believe it or not, in the E36, I actually preferred the 328i to the M3 Evo.

I'm looking at buying another car and a manual E46 328Ci has caught my eye.

Would it disappoint? Any thoughts?

The 2.8 in the E36 is a great engine, some BMW enthusiasts even prefer it to the 3.0 that came in with the E36.

If you put a different inlet manifold on it (from the 325?) it makes more power.

Not quite..... wink

That looks like a pretty honest ad to me. I reckon that could be a really good buy, esp if you knocked a few hundred quid off the asking.

I rather like it. I need another MB about as much as I do a dose of herpes, but it is my wife's birthday tomorrow, and she's still smarting about me buying the SL, so perhaps I could ease her pain by buying this as a 'gift'? scratchchin

Do it, I dare you! But you have to report back on her reaction. I'm sure we can find a sofa for you to sleep on until the fallout clears hehe

The IS never seems to get much love, although I suspect it's better than much of what else is out there at £2500.

The Mondeo is from a decent range of cars. I get driven around for work in a new one (yeah, yeah, I know, whatever...) and I much prefer it to the alternatives; badge aside it's a really good product and makes sense on all sorts of levels.

So, I'm a fan, but I'm still not sure I'd spend the thick end of 3 grand for a 10 year old one.

Estate or not, it's still a very common Ford, and I reckon the 1-5 band is as much about interesting stuff than just good stuff.

This was exactly what I was looking for before buying my V70. Shame it is running faultlessly or I could have justified a change
