Actually I rather prefer the colour combo on this one (also £1,500) http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

Are there any major issues with these?
I'm a big fan of greens, reds and other non-typical colours on barges. I like the idea that the original purchaser wasn't concerned with resale value. It's how I'm able to live with my beige/gold Rover 75. Its the colour of a glamorous pensioner's hearing aid.

Alas, I know nowt about that green Merc but Its the first one of that 'ilk' that I've liked the look of.

Lol. Glass half empty much?!
Quite the opposite! Just a realist in this instance. It's a dice roll at that mileage. I'd feel more comfortable buying that at 150K with bills to show a gearbox rebuild, coolant system and brake refresh etc.

We've both owned E39 530i's and in my experience of running one from 30-195K the most expensive time owning an E39 is from 100-150K. Either side of that and it'll cost you peanuts and general servicing and maintenance to run.

A dangerous chain of thinking - that's how I ended up buying my green merc W124!

Light brown and darker brown!

Given the cost of these back in the day I delight in the idea of the owner going through all the options and deciding on this rather unique looking car.

The great thing with such an old car is that it's bound to come back in to fashion sooner or later. Under £2k as well...

Does anyone know of a dealer called Deans Of Sutton Coldfield? They look fairly low-rent, but have what could be a nice XJS, which I could be very interested in.

Don't know anything about the dealer but I'm sold on '6.0 V12' love that facelift shape of the xjs too.
Looks good. Google suggests they are on Belwell Lane which is less than 2 miles from my house - there is no car dealership on that road, so whether they are trading from a private house or that's just the company's registered address is unclear. I know nothing about Jags but if you want me to drop by next week and kick the tyres let me know.

How is the SL CDG? I was following a 500 earlier today and thought of this thread - they really do look nice!
The SL is a fantastic thing.

I had a fluids service when I bought it, and had hoped not to spend a penny more on it until well into 2015, but I've got a roof problem that I'd really rather get sorted before putting the hard top on for the winter. It's booked-in with a roof specialist in Dorking next week whilst I'm overseas and hopefully they'll fix it at reasonable cost.

That aside, it's a peach. Much has been said about them elsewhere, but the performance is epic and the styling (to my eyes) is under-stated, subtle and handsome. For £4k, it's hard to think of another car that offers the same package of classic style, performance and image.

I suspect it'll be a while before the wider market starts to appreciate them and there's any sort of appreciation, but in the meantime they're really decent cars at a really decent price.

Once again, shameless picture whoring:

+1 - love it. Needs a correct pre 01 font, front plate to match the rear, a set of rear OE mudflaps and a boot badge and good to go.

Is it a barge though? Sure its a 3.0v6 in a medium sized car, but it's a humdrum Ford with a manual gearbox.
Good all round car, but not a barge.
