LS forum
Where?
If you Google "Lexus LS forum" you may find something
http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/forum/48-ls-400-lexus-ls430-lexus-ls460-lexus-600h-club/

I am aware of the potential issues with these, and will only be buying one with a full Lexus history.
Going to look at a couple next weekend, and expect I will have to pay over thread budget (but not by much) for the right one.

Granted they are not as bork-proof as the LS400, but they are also quite an advancement when you compare the 2.
And compared to a Merc/Audi or BMW of similar age they are a lot less likely to give major issues.
However I will be keeping a fund separately for any challenges.

Ross I will drop you a PM when I am due to come down, but the purchase will be published on here so I can become a "proper" bargista smile

Thanks for the comments on the W210 chaps. It's a lovely car and I've spent a few quid on it now getting it right.

Just need to decide what to do with my Vectra :

I've owned it from 6 months old and it's wanted for nothing over the years. Problem is, it's pretty much worthless in the marketplace today (2.0T petrol, 53 plate, 125k) so I'll no doubt just end up keeping it and alternating between the two until the Jag re-appears in the Spring.

(Apols for the thread de-railment, I know this isn't readers cars)
That Vectra looks quite purposeful!
Looks to be lowered (properly, not boy racer style!) and is that an Irmscher exhaust system I spy?
As you say, probably not worth a lot, but a better car than most out there.
I would keep it, get a spare set of alloys and stick some winter rubber on it (have a gut feeling we are going to get a lot of the white stuff over the winter).

After getting the rear arches done, I'm committed now so ...
Do you mind giving an indicative outline of what was involved and the cost of arch repairs?

I'll need to address the fronts of my 124 estate in due course, but have no idea of what it might cost.

Any thoughts on risks associated with this and what actual running costs would be?

I paid £200+VAT per side and that was trade. Not sure what retail would be. Rubbed down (think N/S needed dog leg welded) filled, smoothed and rear wings painted, lacquered and blended into rear pillars. Had to strip out all the boot interior trim and rear wing lights to do it. Had the car for 2.5 days.

Thanks, seems very reasonable, but I suppose trade would be.

It's an SRi so it has stiffened and lowered suspension as standard - which gives a hard ride. Not really a fan to be honest - should have seeked out an Elite in retrospect...The exhaust is a Magnex dual system. When the rear boxes rotted out at five years old there were no pattern parts available, so a full stainless system was actually cheaper than a pair of rear GM boxes from Vauxhall. I put winter tyres on the same alloys - waste of time last year! Not yet fitted them this year.

See from your profile that you have a 9-5 Aero. My car has the SAAB LPT engine - Z20 NET.

Good luck. I went down the exact same path and ended up at a Mk4 LS400. Paying over £5000 for one would certainly help you avoid the multi-owner neglected cars.

(Bear in mind that much of the extra LS430 bork risk is not reduced by FLSH. The bugbears are the age-related failures of a lot of the toys.)

I think you will find the Z20 was a GM engine?
The Saab 9-3 and 9-5 had the B205 and B235 (and originally the B204/234

The Z20NET and Z20LET are GM engines using different pistons, turbo and ecu software as I recall.

Looking again at that car though I expect it will attract a fair degree of interest from the Vauxhall owners members (VXON) as a car with such comprehensive history is rare.
If you choose to sell, that would be where I would place it. You may be pleasantly surprised at the response.

I remember reading your posts on finding a good Lexus, and you certainly found plenty of bad ones!

I have realised that sub £5k is unlikely to find me what I want, and while I know that a full history will not exclude potential bork (air suspension, rear air con leaks etc), it will be less likely.

Knowing my way round cars makes me a "challenging" customer for any vendor as I will go over everything (jack up car or put on ramps) check everything works, go through history, check previous MOT's, do my own HPI check etc.

I will find things, then I use that to negotiate the price I want to pay.
An LS is not a quick selling car and one of those I am going to view has been for sale for a couple of months already to my knowledge (and I hope that is not because it is a shed!).

My only downside is I need to find something before the end of November because the Saab will not pass an MOT without substantial work and expenditure that I am not going to do because the car is not good enough to warrant it.

God that is nice, and if genuine (history, NO RUST)I may be taking a trip to Surrey in the near future!

Anyone in the Redhill area care to take a look at it? smile

One of our neighbours a few doors up has one of these. I knew they were cheap now, didn't realise quite how cheap! Sounds ace as it rumbles past.

Something a bit different, and a haggle away from thread budget. Somewhat challenging leather/"wood" combo, but overall I rather like it.
