Agree. That colour combination on that W124 is amazing.

£750 for a V8 LPG anyone?

Edited by sday12 on Wednesday 15th October 21:48
It's a no go from me.

The guy selling was nice, honest. It looks ok, few bits of poor touch up, both rear arches are rusty, another patch on the pillar. Dent on the bootlid, dent by the rear light, couldn't really check for fuel leaks as it was dark. Cracked rear valance.

Interior is better, all there, clean enough and look 'honest' for its 168k.

Drove ok, slipped on first gear a tiny bit when it was cold but soon as warm it was on the button through all gears. It's been lowered on proper springs, not just chopped.

So, worth the money. Except...

The backboxes have been hacksaw'd off. It's loud. Like, really loud! Not a particularly nice noise either. Just BAaAAAHHHH every time you accelerate. Such a shame as other than that it's a cheap old bus that I'd hack about in until it died.

Still. As a bonus I was thinking of changing the exhaust on my clk. Not anymore! I'll keep the low burble! frown
Sounds like a shed best avoided.

Tbh Im sure it'll be a reliable old thing for someone that wants to chuck a few quid at it. For £750 its not a bad car. but and its a big but. It needs 2 rear tyres, it needs 2 fronts 'soon', it needs tax and the exhausts welding back on (he has the back boxes in the garage).

If it was £750 all in. I think i'd do it but it needs 2 tyres (at best £300 for 18's?). Tax has gotta be £150 for 6 months. What, £100 for exhaust work?

Add some front tyres and your in a £1500, ratty looking 740 with 170k. Only plus being LPG.

I was drooling over that last night. If I hadn't just bought the R129 . . etc.

Must sell a car, not buy another, must sell a car, not buy another, must sell . . . .
Wow... cloud9

Hi Judas, I see you've dropped the price on your 750 a bit, have you not had much interest? Any thoughts on keeping her perhaps?
I'd love to keep her, but now the Bentley's arrived the chances of that are slim to non. Three barges is excessive even by my distorted standards hehe

Interest has been thin on the ground and mostly from idiot texters. However, a friend (and fellow PH'er) is returning from Oz early December and had said he'll have it provided it passes it's MOT and will fit in his garage. He used to have an XJS which fitted, but with not much space to spare, so it's 50/50 whether Brunhilda will fit.
Now provisionally sold subject to fresh MOT bounce And it's staying in the PH family too smile

That will be largely determined by how much I need to spend to get it through the MOT hehe It shouldn't need much, if anything, but you never know.

Well avoided it seems. Chaps should really check out the SOTW thread for the gossip!

I feel a bit sorry for him after all the car is really cheap (especially by the time you have a good haggle!).

Another nice enough looking W124 for £2k http://www.classicwise.co.uk/cars/1989f-mercedes-w...

I return from a few days in Hungary and find this posted. What a lovely-looking thing; great spot.

Not the cheapest, but if it really is as described that could possibly be the best.

You're both probably right. Cheap to buy but new tyres, MOT (with related issues) probable fuel tank and cooling issues wanting sorting at some point. Best buy a better E38 perhaps!

Doesn't that look rather comfortable:

How does the e32 drive? A bit old school (ie meaning I'd probably rather like it!)?
