I didn't even know that model existed until I see it here.

Another one from a trader we've had before. Do like this.

A8 3.7 Quattro.

What a good looking car those a8s are. Hard to value with such low miles and the 3.7 engine - who would buy one and only do 40k miles in all that time though?!

How much are we looking at for this extraordinary 124?

Twice thread budget?

It's strange how things change. Is it rose-tinted glasses?
I remember a family member having a W124 and everyone around remarking how crap it was.
It was a bloody awful car. It was sold for a diesel Montego which was quite a bit better.

Possibly. But if that were the case then, lovely though that 124 looks, there's an equally lovely looking E39 Alpina B10 3.3 Touring manual currently available that I would look at first.

Are you serious? We had family members who had a w123, w124 and Montego: no one EVER came to that conclusion here! smile

Good trolling tongue out

Another lovely 6 cylinder 300e 4 door (you wait ages for one...) http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C513725# with the early black leather interior, air con ('needs regas' though) and sunroof. The spoiler would have to go though!

Met RenesisEvo earlier and saw his lovely E39 M5. Saw S3_Graham's CLK55 and got a few shots of it too which I'll upload later with his permission smile It did look rather nice!

I'm surprised to say I'm not! It was thrashy and gutless and always reluctant to kick down. It also wallowed and jarred and wasn't all that spacious. I'd have to say that car would have been K or L reg and a four-cylinder, but I don't remember exactly. It was bought nearly new in about 1994 or 1995.

Thanks! Maybe the six-cylinder with leather and alloys versions are better than that four-cylinder with cloth and steelies!
That one is the only experience I've ever had of one so I wouldn't know if it's typical or not. I certainly have nothing against them and wouldn't mind trying one one day.

Rereading that ad the car does seem to be remarkably well specced: eg "ASD (hydraulic limited slip differential)". Is the steering wheel original? My 91 has a different one.

My family had a Maestro, Montego and Sierra back in the day; when I first drove my w124 I was astounded that merc could be building the W124 at same time such other rubbish was being produced! They are from another era and stand up so well against modern cars.

Ross that sounds good - I look forward to the pictures. I do like e39 M5s aside from they all seem to be rusting now. I saw one in a car park the other day - wonderful from a distance, up close EVERY panel was rusty.

That's a decent looking example - uber rare glass sunroof option too (most have a solid metal panel, followed by solar roof as next most common and I've only seen 1 other with a glass panel). Spec is pretty low, as you'd expect. It's an SE which means you miss out on the lovely Recaro sports seats.

I would guess it's been an under cover London car judging by the dealer plate?

The 3.7 is funny, because it's a bit more economical than the 4.2 but feels a fair bit more leisurely.

Given the low miles and 2 years till the belts are due I'd say about £3500-4000 to the right buyer if the history and condition stack up. I'd MUCH rather have one like this than a D3 with 4 times the mileage!

In fairness I always thought that the Montego was quite good. The ones that we had certainly were frugal and never problematic.
That W124 wasn't badly made - it was just incredibly dull, sluggish, thirsty and not very nice to drive.

I'll upload some pics of the M5 and the CLK55 within the next couple of hours. I need to shrink them because PH has 2MB limit, and my pics are 3x that!

There were some amazing cars there! Couple of McLarens, new Lamborghini Huracan (looks so much nicer in the metal!) and Aventador, Carrera GT, 458s and plenty more. Cant say there were too many barges, mind! Couple of XJs and M5s but that was about it.

No worries, thanks for letting me see the M5! The E65 is a mega mile-muncher!

The seller really needs to change his camera settings... An A8 4.2 in white with 39k miles is an interesting car though! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

A brave combination on such a large car!

Yes, this is one of the early airbag types...
