Late 1999 XJR, black/black, 100k, decent history, still visiting main dealer, bought from a very nice chap in Aberdeen. Drive home was brilliant and not as heavy on the gogo juice as I was expecting (good amount left of the £50 I put in - I was pleasantly shocked)
congratulations, that looks absolutely epic.Re tyres I recently bought these for my W210 :
http://falken-europe.com/tyre/details/99
The car had a matching set of Avon ZV5 all round, two needed replacing and the other two were 4 and 7mm. The spare was an original 13 year old Pirelli P4000 on 4mm.
Easiest and cheapest would be to get two new Avons to match up. Problem was that the tyres on the car were over-specified 97W XL - when all that was required was 93V. I don't like the harder ride that extra load tyres give so figured I'd buy a new set of four and use one of the good, recent Avons as a spare (I ultimately treated the boot to the 2013 7mm one)
I went 'all season' as it seemed sensible on a RWD car that would be used over winter. You can't really push a car like this (2.6 V6 auto) and I don't have a reference on this car, but the Falkens don't give way on spirited driving on country lanes so I'm happy with the choice so far. Will have to see how they wear.

I know that exact road where it's parked. Went to uni just round the corner from there. Great mileage, but it looks like a dog! And not a nice dog!

That XJR looks brilliant, nice and mean like a proper jag should look.
Another 400+ miles done today so 750+ done over the weekend, I would have been happy to do lots more (I have a set of James Bond audiobooks to get through!).
Tank 1 went at 25.9 mpg, tank 2 at 27.3 mpg - not too bad really.

Which Falkens are they? The link doesn't work for me. I had Falken 912s on my 9-5 aero and they were good in all conditions and wore well too. http://falken-europe.com/tyre/details/99

Early ones were originally built with plastic timing chain tensioners, which were inadequate. Most cars have had the metal ones fitted by now, but something to watch out for. It's not a huge job either!
I think the diffs on the R can be a weak point (mentioned a couple of pages back).
You'll see mention of a Nikasil issue, but to be honest any car that feels healthy now will never have an issue.
Other than that they just have the usual issues that similar cars have - rust, dodgy "sealed for life" auto boxes, rust, cooling systems can have sticky stats and dodgy hoses. Oh, and rust!

congratulations, that looks absolutely epic.I find (with a few exceptions) that Jaguar are generally the best at steering wheels and gearknobs. The wheel in the XJR is very nice. It niggles me that the wood on the wheel isn't stained to match the dark wood, so I'd have to have a little go at sorting that. Probably with regrettable results.

Seems Falken's website has gone down since yesterday. They are Euroall Season AS200 :http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Falken/EUROALL-S...
