But if there's no point, and I'm told that if they need replacing in the future I won't really pay much labour.... Why change for no reason?
When your car goes in for a service next, will you change the engine simply because it's done lots of miles, yet still does the job fine?
Just seen your reply. Here's the diagram of your front strut:When your car goes in for a service next, will you change the engine simply because it's done lots of miles, yet still does the job fine?
Part 11 is the bump stop. If yours has done 60k or more it'll be starting to get a bit tired. They list at $19 each, and to change the spring he'll be removing everything else anyway, so it'll add about 30 seconds. It might only make a small difference, but if I were you I'd get it done now. To do it later will be all the same labour again.
Likewise the rear axle:
Even cheaper for the back.
So to answer your question, if as part of the service they were removing the engine anyway, and the incremental cost of replacement was fairly trivial then yes, I would. Especially if I knew that I'd have to do it in the near future if I didn't do it then, and would be paying for all the same labour.
Your car, your money, your choice.

I've already said the bump stops/top mounts are getting changed so not sure what your point is? It's the shocks I'm not changing. They'd add what, £500+ to the bill? Part 11 is the bump stop. To be fair mate, you didn't mention bump stops unless I missed it in another post.
You've bought a money pit!
It does seem that way
Still....ones it's done it'll be good for xxxx (insert optimistic length of time here, only to be realistically replaced with a much shorter period of time).
To be fair tyres are tyres, and that's easily going to be over 1/2 the bill. The car has so far cost me (wheel refurb aside) around £400 this year so it's not that bad.Good post from the Flange and certainly helps my understanding of what to do/not to do.

E65 has gone in today for some work and it won't be ready until Monday
Turns out the reason the front tyres were wearing unevenly (more so the OSF) was due to the camber being way off, and the OSF spring was 14-15mm lower than the NSF. The OSR spring was also lower than the NSR spring.....so yes, it's getting 4 new springs!
Mate is getting it sorted, I asked is it worth doing the shocks too and he said it rides fine and they aren't leaking so not to worry, just change them at a later date if needed. I then said about increased labour cost and he simply said "don't you worry about that, you're getting a very good deal on that).
Secondly, I can't recall exactly but something like the rear track adjuster or rod end or something or the other is seized solid do needs a new one which won't arrive until tomorrow.
So, that needs doing, 4 new springs, 4 new tyres, new fuel filter, air filter, microfilter plus the cause of the steering wheel shimmy under braking all at once. Ouch!! Will easily be my biggest ever car bill.

Perhaps a daft question but I genuinely don't know....after getting 4 new springs and tyres (and the other bits) will there be a noticeably difference in how it rides/handles!?
I don't think it is a daft question. I'm no guru but I don't think you'll really notice. Now, if you'd done your shocks too...Still....ones it's done it'll be good for xxxx (insert optimistic length of time here, only to be realistically replaced with a much shorter period of time).

Right. Thought I would update that I just agreed a purchase of a barge of sorts. Not something that comes up here very often and possibly not quite a barge, more a mini barge.
Not yet collected, so will update in a week or so, just waiting for the DVLA to send back paperwork following a private plate removal..

O wise and learned gentlemen of this thread, I call upon your assistance.
I am now properly looking for a barge, and as is always the case, when you have the money, there is nothing of interest around!
What am I looking for?
Thanks
Dave

What am I looking for?
- V8 goodness.
- Toys, lots of toys (heated front and rear seats, GOOD sound system).
- Top end of thread budget or above for the right car.
- FULL documented history.
- Not an E65 BMW (too many inherent flaws).
- Audi A8 (still make me nervous with the electrics, but tick the boxes and Mrs LB approves.
- Lexus LS430 This is what I would like but not seen any that are worth the money being asked, (and are NOT gold!)
- Mercedes...hmmm. Can I find one without rust and impending bork?
Thanks
Dave
I do like an XJR. I had this one on my watch list yesterday and forgot about it. The line about a slight misfire is a bit of a concern. (just a coil pack or as serious as the head gasket?), if it is something fairly minor though it looks like someone got a bit of a bargain for a late X308 (anyone on here?!)

Have you considered a GS430? I've found you tend to get better value for money out of them and they still keep the Lexus-ness of the LS. "Levinson" models have fantastic sound systems.Laidback66 said:

I would ignore your E65 ban and buy this 760 (negotiating to 20% over budget in my imaginary world) http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...I am now properly looking for a barge, and as is always the case, when you have the money, there is nothing of interest around!
