Ross, have read your post.

Would suggest that it makes sense when you go in to the consultant to get part #1 on the diagram replaced. Should make a useful difference.

In all seriousness, good luck and fingers crossed for you.

Chin up and all that Ross and keep staying positive. I'm nearing the end of an eight week course of radiotherapy and I reckon keeping a PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) has helped no end towards getting me through it.

I have literally no idea. It will probably be a bit of both....not a massive resale value but I'd certainly want more, and I think it'd be easier to sell too, of course.

Based on all that if I can afford to keep it it'll be staying for a while yet. The only big potential bills left after the coolant and oil leaks....once that's done the car will be fantastic....it isn't leaking coolant but it's the only big potential bill left (famous last words).

The reason I say if I can afford to keep it...I'm saving for a house purchase....circumstances may force sale when the time comes; also, sadly, was diagnosed with a brain tumour just last week and the neurologists aren't sure exactly what to do yet as it's an extremely rare tumour so I'm waiting to hear back (should be tomorrow!!) on their plan of action. I've been very ill for a long time, it's taken them 15 months (!!!!!) to find it. I'm hoping they can fix me....if not, I'll leave it to my best mate to do with as he pleases (he's also a PHer and a barge fan, and really likes the car). If I require surgery I probably won't be able to drive for a while.

I cannot describe just how fresh it feels, it's amazing.
Blimey! I really hope you can be diagnosed and treated for a full recovery. There's a lot of people on here wishing you well which I'll echo as it can certainly make you feel more positive.

All the very best.

I've been feeling right browned off this evening because I watched Harry's Garage on YouTube (if you haven't, you should) and it was covering his R129 600SL. My flat sale has just fallen through and right then and there I decided to buy one. I've been monitoring the market for months but checked today and this beauty came up:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-SL600-V12-R129-...

- 2+2 so will take the kids in the back (following a 3 point belt upgrade)
- convertible so the Mrs will love it
- FSH, looks absolutely mint, pano hard top, Michelins, everything works
- perfect car for weekend trips out and continental blasts
- 6l V12!
- £9k

I GOT SIGN OFF FROM THE WIFE

Phoned the chap - he was really nice. Car sold this morning.

Then I saw Ross's post, and I'm thinking it's only a car. Ross, all the best with your treatment and enjoy your 7 Series. We're all rooting for you and your attitude is quite inspirational.

Cheers,

Joel

Agreed with all.

Ross, you're a fellow bargista and instrumental in making this a great forum; get well soon.

Joel, your car will be out there somewhere. I'd recommend quickfitbs for the three-point belts when you get one. They're superb and great value.

300SL?
Right bodystyle. Wrong car smile
300CE?
CLK320?
Z4 convertible auto?
Audi A4 Cab?
Jaguar XK8?
BMW 330Ci cab?
Should have waited to say something, will reveal once the deal is concluded, but it is something mentioned in one of the above comments wink

dont want to jinx it!
A 300CE would add to your garage nicely, but then you said we don't talk about them much on here (we do!). Perhaps a return to the Z4 as a wafter smile

You can't tell us you've bought something without expecting us to guess!
Collecting Friday next week. Train booked. smile

Have we had this? Looks nice. Not a fan of the colour myself. Looks to be in amazing condition.

Just a little heads up for R129 fans: Harry Metcalfe has put a review of his £5k SL600 on his Youtube channel. Worth a look imho as he comes across as a good guy and a proper enthusiast.

I find his videos far more interesting than any of the stuff showing a lap around a circuit. The value of that SL600 is something else.

Just watched Harry's Garage. Time for the R129 to start rising in value I think. Though I'd always fancied a 500 and now only a 600 will do laugh

I remember Harry buying that SL600, it was up for £5k in Scotland for sometime and lots of discussion on this thread ensued. I suspect he might have even got it a touch cheaper given how long it was for sale. Harry does have quote a collection of V12s!

I will watch the video later and will be interested to see what. if aything, it has cost him to date.

For reference I was at the Classic Auction in Poole last week and a V12 R129 (albeit an SL60 AMG) made £25k. I think values for 'special' R129's, including all V12's, will do well in the future.

The SL60 was a special AMG V8. I don't think they made a V12 SL60 in the R129. The last SL60 I saw was/is up for £30k, so significantly more than SL600s.

Interestingly I see that the bi-turbo SL55 V12 (500bhp) is now below £15k.

All then very best Ross.

Kind of puts things into perspective doesn't it. If anyone is thinking 'I'll buy a barge next year on in the future' then do it now. You don't know what's around the corner.

There is one for sale at a garage in Oxford at the moment, for £26,500, according to the seller they only made 49 in RHD.

I like the interior, but in styling terms I think it's completely offensive.

Would be much better suited to a Peugeot or Triumph badge, IMO.

5k cry

What a glorious car, and thanks for the heads up. I do quite fancy an R129. Looks like it'll have to be soon before the boat is missed.

Ross, really sorry to hear about your illness.

Your attitude is an inspiration.

Its funny how you feel like you know someone, for me anyway. I often reference posts on here to non ph friends and I have talked about your car and your experiences with it to people in the past.

Best of luck.
