I know over thread budget but do people think this is over priced?
I really want a 750 but is it too much at that price?
I don't really know the market value of a 750, but that looks about 4 or 5 grand overpriced to me. It is very nice though. What are peoples thoughts on this:

Just spoke to the vendor of the 600SL I linked above. He's clearly an ex-trader, has had the car 5 years, says it runs fine, everything works, MOT'd May of this year, but has basically been SORN'd for 5 years so no stamps in the book or anything like that.
Car looks good in the pictures, has decent tyres (P6000 / Goodyear Eagle, though not matching front-rear) and is up at £10k. Given the gap in history, a cheeky bid in the nuts?

If you haven't seen this already, you really should. And all for £5k....Car looks good in the pictures, has decent tyres (P6000 / Goodyear Eagle, though not matching front-rear) and is up at £10k. Given the gap in history, a cheeky bid in the nuts?

The 500 is adequate. But who wants to be just adequate?
The M119 V8 is probably the best V8 of all time. But the M120 V12 really is a masterpiece. If you can, then you know you should.
That's quite some statement, there! Just out of question, what is it about it you think it's best? The M119 V8 is probably the best V8 of all time. But the M120 V12 really is a masterpiece. If you can, then you know you should.
Perhaps one or 2 of its features are "best", but there will be other features of other V8s will are also better. Or do you mean best V8 of all time, for your personal requirements?
Could well be right though
Personally, I'd put Toyota's 1UZ engine up there.

For sure; heading into the worst time of year possible to sell any soft top, never mind one with a target market of probably a few dozen people in the country. 5 year gap would worry me a bit, only on the hydraulics side of things. I don't think the cylinders in the A pillars and in the rest of the car would enjoy 5 years of no use. Just drove into town in mine and got flashed by a silver K plate 129 on the way. Amusing! Used to get that all the time in the Lotii but not so much in the mercs (pagoda excluded).

Looks very nice. I thought only Jag did lambswool rugs. Reckon those P6000s on the rear will be pretty old.Car looks good in the pictures, has decent tyres (P6000 / Goodyear Eagle, though not matching front-rear) and is up at £10k. Given the gap in history, a cheeky bid in the nuts?
Surely a bargain? W124 300E Saloon in Smoke Silver?

I don't know why they changed from the very hardwearing, sober check cloth in the W124 and W201 to the garish patterns seen in the first C Class and W210. Doesn't seem as durable either. Cost no doubt.Very little mention of MB Tex in this thread...probably too few cars specced with it in the UK.
Here's hoping this qualifies as a barge. I sold my old car and needed something to cheer me up as ive been a misserable sod recently. Just chatting to a bloke who comes into work and he told me about his old Mercedes CLK320 Auto he had for sale. Just 108k miles and full service history, recent alloy refurb and new tyres £500!
As usual the arches need some attention and there is a slight dent in the drivers door but all in all im happy with it. Just spent the morning at work cleaning it.

That one was for sale at the same price several weeks ago, and (obviously) got no takers. I like that cloth, and the cloth in the earlier W124s too. Very hard wearing and much nicer then the stuff in the face-lifted cars.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1990-MERCEDES-300E-smoke...

Been lurking on this thread for long time and very shocked to hear about the news Ross. I admire your positivity and I wish you a speedy recovery.
I know this is not exactly in barge territory yet but I keep looking at W215 CL600s. Great refined cars with plenty of toys. However how reliable are they? Also looking at CL55s but would prefer the charged V12 in the 600.

Personally, I'd put Toyota's 1UZ engine up there.
Classic configuration: 90deg angle, 5.0litre capacity, over-square, 48valves, DOHC.
Perfect outputs for most applications: 339bhp, 350b/ft (at 3,900rpm).
Astonishing component and build quality.
Longevity: 1989 to 1999, and the block of course started life in 1969 in the M117.
Racing pedigree: it won Le Mans in 1989; the CLK-LM won every race in the 1998 GT series (using a 600bhp 6.0litre M119), leading to the cancellation of the GT1 class because nobody else could compete!
Strength: the Sauber-Mercedes Le Mans car was putting out 950bhp using blocks taken off the production line.
Reliability: not one engine was replaced under warranty (something shared with the m113).
Economy: it'll give 20mpg in vigorous use in heavy chassis; it is light for an engine of its type.
Innovation: VVT, among other things.
And subjectively, it also looks beautiful, sounds glorious without being silly, and responds smartly.
Finally, it features in some of the best cars of all time, high end Mercedes-Benz from the period 1985 to 1995, w124, r129 and w140.

I don't generally like American cars but could you not call an LS engine a great in the same view? Classic configuration: 90deg angle, 5.0litre capacity, over-square, 48valves, DOHC.

It may be great in many respects.... But it certainly wouldn't be the V8 in my dream car.
