Did that involve many cold starts? Diesels can be less efficient in cold weather because they take a long time to heat up - thus increasing fuel consumption.

Better than my driving experience today anyway.. 300 miles in a 1.2 Corsa (2009). Hugely tiring to drive and a poor car by modern standards.

I have a Range Rover Supercharged and a Corsa 1.2 in the previous generation to yours. I really don't get what people hate about them - I actually enjoy driving mine. Abuse it and abuse it and it refuses to develop a problem of any kind. It's never cleaned and in horrible condition but it drives perfectly and feels as taut and tight as new cars I drive.

I'll probably have another when this one is used. It's a useful little tool.

I love it, older BMWs look good in white to me. The badge and spoiler would have to go though, and I'd ensure it was either sparkling clean or filthy, never in-between.

Yep tough and dependable and better than many cars of old, but 5th is geared to 150 mph and it only has 80hp. The engine constantly needs working and it's pretty tiring!

Ok, hold on to your nuts - it's an E280 CDI.

3.0 V6 Diesel, with 7 gears and a seat for each.

So far so good. But the computer's read-out of 27mpg so far is givin g me palpitations. We're half way through a tank-to-tank test to discover if that's accurate. If it is then this car will not be long for the fleet. That's ridiculous.

The 5-speed E320 this is intended to replace is no worse.
Experiment complete. The results are in:

480 miles on a tank.

30.0 mpg. Rubbish. Sorely disappointed.
There must be something wrong with it surely?
Of little help but perhaps some consolation. I'm only getting between 340-370 miles per tank out of my W211.

I have to admit I'd like to be getting more.

Dunno. Recently serviced, and drives very nicely. Engine is strong and even. Doesn't give the impression of anything being 'up'.

The long-term mileage consumption reading (over 11,000 miles) is 32mpg.

I dunno...

That 480 miles is basically 24 20-milers from cold each time. My W210 320 CDi did 39 on the same treatment.
I borrowed the C320 cdi from work a few times and it always returned 35-39mpg. Long runs it was apparently good for 40+

Well, that's true. I think that mine has the same engine but a lot less weight to lug around so it's not such a bother!

I don't really like these (even with lpg!), but there can't be many cheaper ways of getting to 60 in 5 seconds on four wheels. £3,695.

I've always liked these and I'm deliberating about this one. I just know that I don't need two 4.2 litre Jaguar supercharged V8s!

That looks a great buy at that money. Mot'd to March and Quattro, has to be the ideal winter barge.

At some point I do have to own a car with a rear electric blind!

I make use of mine in the W124 on a near daily basis (or various colleagues who travel in the car delight in doing so!)

Yeah - I think I want it though, or a similarly comedy-priced 'Setright' Prelude. Talk me out of it if you like.
