2. As close to 15p a mile as possible. I think it's doable with either the 220 petrol or 250. Yes?
I think you might be in the wrong thread - nothing here is going to get anywhere near 15p a mile! Heck I think my 530i probably did more than that just in fuel let alone all the other costs associated with keeping an old barge going. I think the actual per mile rate was more like 50p.

If you want to get 15p a mile running costs I can't think of much this side of a Toyota Aygo.
My XJS does

/misguidedsmugmode

(Yes, there are other incidental costs that help make it go, but juice is by far the biggest)

Ordinarily this kind of thing would provoke a link to a fun little blog I can't stay away from, but purely out of deference to the huge amount of useful stuff you know about Mercedes, I'm going to hold back. smile
Damn. I know that blog. I've been trying to get on it for years.

Amazing spec on this 300e http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C513725 I think we had it before when it was for sale the first time around.

So to summarise then.

He hasn't got a clue about the mileage (could be 400k for all we know), and would rather fit a chavvy stereo than repair the electric windows or 'regas' rolleyes the aircon. Oh, and he fits ditchfinders.

Have I missed anything?
But, but... just look at the spec!

Tinted windows. Hmmmmmm.
I saw this car and discounted it for the same reason. I also couldn't find out anything about the vendor online.

Nice car. Almost identical to mine same age, colour, and engine!

Feb top mounts are about £75 a side. They are not a terrible job to DIY but need some planning and persistence. There are three real problems: 1) Getting the engine lifted high enough to get to the top bolts (high is the answer) 2) Breaking the top bolt 3) getting the old mounts out and new ones in. It made a massive difference to my car along with all the other rubbery bits in the front suspension and steering that I replaced at a similar time.

If you are a member of the Mercedes Owners Club I posted a thread on there about the job. If you fancy having a go yourself have a read.
Sadly DIY out of the question as I have nowhere to do it. Having looked at them they aren't that bad (engine moves very slightly to the passenger side not the alarming jump I've seen on YT videos). I could really do with the contact details of a decent place in the UK....I'm going to join the MB club though as I can tell already this car is a keeper.
Its like having access to an exclusive London club but only paying Weatherspoon's money for the privilege.

I saw this car about a year ago when it was being hawked on a local dodge pot forecourt at an asking of £3k. If it's still the same, and it looks much the same, it's probably OK value at the bottom of thread budget, £1,250, maybe £1,500 at a push. The wheels are off a 126/107 and are the wrong offset and so, of course, the tyres are the wrong size. But that's not the end of the world since you'd probably get more for them on Ebay than a second hand set in the correct size will cost you. There was a bit of rot, less than most. The interior was mint so the mileage estimate can't be far out and we all know it's not miles what kill 124s. Anyway, I'm sure I recall it as having about 84k on the clock. Who knows what is up with air con but it won't just need a re-gas. Best case it needs a condenser, worst case and evaporator. Ad doesn't say whether it has ABS (which was optional back then) but looking at the rest of the spec, I assume it has.

W124 E320 Saloon For Sale (1995)

Very honest and willing car. Big history file. Beige hide, 8 hole alloys, Electric heated front seats. Sunroof. Air conditioning. 5 speed gearbox. Head gasket, water pump and loom replaced with new items - should be fine for another 100k. 160k covered so far. Taxed and MOT until March 2015. It is a project but it could be used simultaneously. The car is in Surrey. 2 original ignition keys (both remote), two locking wheelnut keys, original toolkit, original bookpack and first aid kit and original Kenwood stereo with 10 disc changer in the boot.

I resent them too in fairness.

He's also said Herefordshire but he's in Barnet, HerTfordshire.

Autocorrect can sock my bells.

Good roads: I have been looking at this little circuit, largely because Evo magazine has started using it. Not far from Edinburgh, not far from Newcastle. I did the B6357 years ago, at least 15, in a BMW E38 728i and I recall it was brilliant. Any appetite for a group outing? I've no idea whether there are any decent pubs, I suspect not. (In case the link doesn't work it is Hawick-Newcastleton-Hawick using the B6399-B6357-B6088, though the last bit is crap.)

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Hawick,+Scottish...
Group outing appeals, I'm just outside Glasgow but still not too far away.
Very interesting - I do the A68 north to south and back again on a very regular basis to see the family but I am very interested in alternatives.
I used to commute Edinburgh-Newcastle. A68-A697-A1 I found to be the fastest; A68-A696 the most fun. 1hr 40mins was my record.

How about a Sunday afternoon blast in the new year?
I'm up for that!

I phoned and left a message along with emailing some time back about that car, with no response in return. Having said that, if someone did manage to get hold of the seller and wanted me to check it out, I'd be happy to do so as it's local to me

Hi all,

I'm a close friend of Ross (E65 Ross). I think he said in this thread that he was having an op for a brain tumor.

His brother has said that he is out of surgery and in intensive care, still not yet awake. Apparently the surgery was a success.

Be sure to tell him we're all rooting for him, and that we look forward to many future tales of the money pit. Err E65.
