I am probably not the best person to ask about buying at this end of the market though!
I keep looking at that Volvo. It's lovely!

Here is what could be a cracking S4 Avant, it's had a lot of recent spend too although it may still require some brave pills...

Indeed, so long as it's a six cylinder Mercedes w124 with ambers, leather, and A/C, pretty much anything goes really!
Well, in an announcement of a thread buy, I achieved a 3 out of 5 against that metric. In fact, not just me, but we achieved only 3 out of 5.

Yes, with 0a's help, I purchased a 6 cyl 124 with a/c, but MB-tex rather than leather, and facelift so not gingered.

But the real point is a massive TY to a fellow threadist who did a viewing in a neighbouring country for a bloke he's never met (outside this thread). 0a, you're a star, many thanks.

A new (to me) estate has now been purchased and will be trailered down from Scotland by a delightful Pole by Friday. I'm now in the enviable position of having a choice of 124s for the MBW gig next Sunday, although I'm definitely taking the somewhat more glamorous cab than the workmanlike - and as yet unseen and undriven - estate.

What could possibly go wrong?

CDG it drove very well on the limited test drive (much better than mine), and I hope you will think I described the car well enough to help you make an informed decision (too late now eh?!)

I've never got the whole "but it shares bits with a Corolla thing". A S-Class has switchgear shared with a van and a 750i shared with a 116i so, so what?
Edited by confused_buyer on Monday 21st April 18:37
Sharing with a Corolla is bad because the switches feel crappy and cheap in a Corolla so should not be on a Lexus (this is based on them being the same as an MR2 I once had which also had Lexus / Corolla window switches).

Merc (and presumably BMW) switchgear is being shared amongst relatively high end vehicles so is less offensive. This is probably not true of later S-classes I have been in where the switchgear can feel a bit 'Matsui' compared to the W140.

Was featured a few pages back, advertised on PH classifieds at £3800.

Was advertised before that (need to check my 'notes' but think it was around a year ago?) by a dealer in Rotherham at £2995 and I think 43k.

Now, please delete your post, there's a good chap. I need to buy that before someone else sees it.

Sounds ridiculous to say, but starting bids at £3k may be too strong for a 300 on a 'J' I think. Bornite is a great colour and looks to be in pretty good condition.

Oil pressure sitting below 2 raises an eyebrow though...

"the last owner has serviced it by a friend after that so there is no record after 2007."
Hmm for that engine and that generation merc to make strong money it needs history. The ad also talks of age related marks - sounds like a car worth a lot less than the asking price to me.

It's warm, so a 2 bar idle oil P is not surprising IMO.

One of the best-respected posters on the HJ forum, Aprilia, used to love the Nissan QX. Dull but phenomenally well screwed together.

48,000 trips down the road for a pint of milk, or more likely sat around for years and only rolled out for the MOT each year. Its pretty but I see a car like that becoming trouble when put into proper use TBH.
