As much as I completely understand the reason why the manufacturers have gone this way, I find it really quite sad frown

Never mind, at least we can all go and borrow a C180 CDI AMG SPORT PLUS ULTRA SPORT MEGASPORT BLUEPERFORMANCE for 3 years.

This thread is going to look rather different in 10 years time.

In ten years time I had better still be banging on about how good my w124 is given the amount I'm spending on it laugh

2.6, auto, velour, smoke silver, 70k miles, in budget. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-190e-2-6-C...

That's a beauty! Pre=facelift 190s with a decent spec are pretty rare. Love the more colourful early interiors too, and I've only seen a couple of 190s with velour upholstery in over 2 years of looking at themcloud9

Maybe when the novelty of my BMW 325i wears off I will own a 190e 2.6;)

Just means it will be dominated by S class and 7 series as they can still be had with proper propulsion

Well, the wife suggests that, as it's my birthday today, I should just buy that impala 260E, sight unseen, and deal with the consequences later.
When the consequences are owning a nice W124 why worry? Get on with it sir!
But the consequences are

yet another old car that I don't have room for
yet another old car that will do 100 miles per year
yet another old car that I will spend every other weekend trying to 'improve'

Still, it does loo lovely - but the SEC would absolutely have to go first.
I'm broke, I have no room for cars and it would mean not instant death but prolonged torture. Tell me about the SEC.

As can the 5 Series - BMW still over both the 535i and the 550i.

Trouble is nobody buys them so they are needles in haystacks.

Cross-posted I know, but this is pure £1-5k barge WIN!

Being a 24v 525i would be better still, but even so...
Like this? wink

http://www.bmwclassics.co.uk/gallery/index.php?spg...

Going to put it up for sale after Xmas now as the bloke who kept badgering me to sell it to him came up with some pretty lame excuses not to come two weeks ago. Looking back at my email archive I now remember that the same person did the samething a few years ago with a car I was selling. "Serial timewaster/Dreamer"?

Hi everyone,

For those following E65 Ross and his surgery, I spent the day with him in ICU.

He's getting stronger every day. A family member of another patient helped Ross and his family out by buying Ross a hand held white board and pen, so although he can't speak he has been able to write (and his hand writing is getting better)

He handed me the white board yesterday and he had written 'Well this sucks but hey ho'.

I have no idea when he will be out of ICU, but things are definitely looking up.

Best regards,

Matt

I think sadly the thread might look exactly the same in 10 years time as we ignore all the overstyled 2.0 TDi options at 15 years old and keep harping on about Mercedes, BMWs and Jags with I6 and V8 engines that are now 30+ years old.

There won't be many left. How often do you see a SIII XJ6 or W123 on the road now? Sad.

I can't think of any barges these days that could be considered 'massively over engineered'.

Ross's (E65 Ross) first barge deflowering wasn't an E38, but a E34 535i which had something like 234,000 miles on it

We look some pics when he borrowed it:

It was loaned to Ross by a BMW specialist. Amazingly, despite the mileage they put it on a dyno and it was still producing the same power ad when it left the factory. From memory all the toys worked and the ride.. Exceptional. There is no other word for it.

A while back someone with a new, diesel E Class said something to Ross like 'I bet you spend a fortune fueling your car and running it', to which Ross replied something like (in his usual direct but polite way): "Maybe but then I don't hire mine from Mercedes Benz for £500 a month so I'm not sure where you're coming from"

New and with a 2.0tdi badge is the fashion these days frown

Matt, that's great.

I'd imagine the more irritated and angry the messages get, the better from a recovery point of view.

When you get "I hope my bloody E65 is still okay and doesn't need anything doing to it" you will know he's properly on the mend!

Completely left field, but I can't help but think that this would be decent brave economy barging. V shiny. But French. Alas it's Achilles heel I fear, coupled with 3 months tax and 189K on the clock.

Good to see some variety posted, the tax is a non issue though all tax is now non-transferable with a change of owner.
ETA- I see the MOT is only till March so you probably meant that, now sold anyway so a moot point.

Talking about French, these are stunning. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REPOSSESSION-PART-EX-58-...

One of the few cars where I would be quite having the diesel option over the petrol.

I do like the looks of these, and at least Peugeot tried in the big car market unlike plenty of others that just exited it.

The parents had a Laguna Mk1, and while it did 130k miles some of the bodges (from new by Renault) put me off French cars for life. Cables routed across the car for left hand drive, then simply extended back across for right hand drive, parts that were completely different according to what day of the week it was and what supplier they had working for them. A complete mess.

Interesting lift off oversteer though (due to the soft suspension) - as an irresponsible teenager the back would be out at every quiet right hand roundabout turn - it had predictably terrible handling.

I had this on my watch list http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-CADILLAC-SEVILLE-ST...

A v8 for £820.99. Seems like excellent value for a mile muncher.
