Fortunately for my disposable income I'm in Aberdeenshire, so the cost of living is much lower than in the SE England. However, that sort of money is not available to new starts dragged in off the street. Even a graduate in oil & gas (typically a Masters Degree to stand a chance these days now there are so many graduates) will be lucky to see north of £35k/year which isn't that much after tax, when considered in the context of finance repayments on a £40k car. Even at that, most Masters graduates aren't on the internet asking for jobs on car forums.

It could all be inheritence money, but let's face it, most relatives would be fairly disappointed to see their parting gift spunked on a flash car.
It could be an inheritance - but he says he's earned it. He was looking for a job in July, a Scooby in December, drives a Saxo and a van now, and wants an Aston Martin V8. It does look a bit...well...odd. As the OP says, his circumstances have changed - and how!

I had a similar situation but it was my 25th and the budget was £60k. I got a TVR Sagaris.

I'd be tempted by something that isn't going to depreciate much and has the potential for appreciation if I were you. I think the V8V is a good shout - they're never going to get that much cheaper than the mid 30s you can get them for now I don't think. The only issue is they're not all that quick - which is why I didn't go for one. They're bloody cool though, beautiful cars and if you're single they'll get you plenty of muff.

A TVR Tuscan mk 3 would be pretty damn cool - Str8 Six have one for a smidge under budget, comes with a 1 year warranty as well which you ma be able to negotiate to 18 months or 2 years for asking price: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/t...

An Exige would be in budget too, which depending on what you want the car for could either be perfect or useless

Maybe the Ops Saxo is parked up on a drive in Dubai?

I wish I had been able to blow some cash on a flash motor when I was 24 and had some fun.

V8 Vantage would be my choice, then a 993. Forget the idea of a Bentley or DB9 - get one if those when you're a bit older...maybe 26 or 27.

I have been meaning to update this, but after reading the last few bitter and pointless comments I don't see the point.

If you must know:
I have been saving for over 7 years.
Yes I have been unemployed for a while, that has very little to do with my current situation though.
I received a large inheritance a few years ago, but instead of blowing it away I saved it.

I am now a telecom engineer and earn a not inconsiderable amount, and it's a damn site more then most lads my age, and a lot more then what Iv previously earned, hence my savings have increased a lot recently. After being able to live on 1/4 of what I earn now I find saving very easy.

I don't drink
I don't do drugs

My one and only passion is cars, so why shouldn't I drive something nice?

Just because my early 20s has been littered with difficult times it does not mean I can't afford to indulge my self in high end motors!

I can't force you to believe me, and to be perfectly honest I don't need too. The only thing that matters is I know I have the means to treat my self.

I expected this sort of backlash to be honest with you, and that's why i put it off for so long..

To the many who have been truly helpful I thank you, it's been useful over the last couple of weeks and has brought to light some cars I'd not even thought about.

When I make my final choice and buy something I'll let you all know, custard included if you insist.

Indeed.

Do be aware you may also encounter difficulties with some dealers who will not take you seriously. Been there and bought the T-shirt on that one.

I agree. I have taken to phoning a head now to make sure the car is available for viewing and a possible test drive.

I have come across one or two that just make excuses but it's to be expected. If they can afford to to walk away from a potential buyer of any age then that is up to them, I'll go elsewhere.

That's why a few months ago you wrote this

does anybody know where the best place is to look for work in Doncaster and surrounding areas?

I have exhausted the internet now, I spend 5+ hours a day looking.
Due to the stupidly high prices, and the lack of income I cant really get out to look for work.

I do have a full license but sadly I don't have a car at the moment.
If you "received a large inheritance a few years ago" why were you so skint a few months ago that you couldn't even afford leave the house to look for a job?

You're laughable but entertaining in a Dokicish sort of way so keep the BS coming. laugh

Dec 13, looking for an impreza

I am looking at buying an Impreza after christmas, obviously I have been looking on ebay/autotrader/Ph to see what I can get for my money.
Looking at the current prices I can afford to buy a Bugeye or a cheap blobeye both WRX but not STI (in most cases)
Thats some jump inside three months from talking about buying an old Scooby, to spending £40K?

Did you "forget" about your inheritance?

Also, the O/P has been going around deleting the original posts on some of the threads hes started - like the one a year ago where he bought a Peugeot 405 diesel.

Or the one whereby he was applying for a menial job 6 months ago whilst unemployed.

As i said thats some jump in a year.

13 months ago, was going to "treat himself" to a TVR Tuscan as his daily runner - presumably to replace his 405 diesel with.

Oddly the o/p commented that the back box was blowing on the 405 when he got it, but that "would have to wait"
