Many times it's been asked by journalists whether they will turbo the GT86/BRZ and every time the reply seems to be that the FA20 DIT won't fit into the car and an NA engine has better driving feel anyway. I think these are excuses and they are just waiting for the 2015 Impreza WRX/Sti to be released then in 2016 they will put the 1.6 turbo engine they have in the GT86/BRZ. The same power but more torque and better fuel economy to compete with the newly released 2015/2016 MX-5/Spider.
The MX-5 will stay NA with the 1.5/2.0 99hp/155hp 'Skyactiv-G' engines but I think the Spider will use the 'Multiair' Abarth 165hp/180hp engine with a slightly higher price and specification than the Mazda.

I think the dealers are fairly open to offers. A dealer I spoke to a couple of weeks ago to was prepared to match the lowest internet broker price I could find (just under £21500 for solid red or just under £22000 for one in metallic) without much haggling. The only downside was the unexpectedly low pex valuation but for a cash deal it seems a decent price.Passeyfier said:

Not wrong, that is like 1 pipe per 50 odd horsepower, or 1 pipe per cylinder. Either way it is just wrong, like the neds that stick extra tips at the back of their hot hatch.EU should make some (useful) laws about excessive exhaust pipe tips!

Actually ..... even Mr.C declared that it was a fine handling car and needed no more power. If the secret to its appeal is skinny tyres and a well balanced set up .... more power would simply require bigger tyres. Wouldn't necessarily be any more fun.My S1 Elise only has 118bhp ..... and to be honest I don't really find myself thinking that a big wodge of extra grunt would be fabulous. The car is terrific just as it is. The same is probably true of the Toyota.

I just got my summer tires back on, the weather is getting warm; I've been considering a used Cayman for a while now but I honestly think as a daily driver the brz might be more fun. The car's limits are just perfectly suited to reasonable speed fun on the commute. I'm in the camp of hoping the thing just be cheaper, rather than more powerful.
Tyres* Boooooo Waaaaaaa Hiiiissssss god sake it's way too slow and too expensive, needs at least 2 turbos, 450bhp and to be priced from £10,000 before I'll even consider it. Is that too much to ask?
(I'm looking forward to see the facelift, it would also be nice if Toyota offered a lower spec version in the UK priced say £1500 below the current model. Not necessarily the fully stripped back model but one with fewer gadgets could have eh potential to do well here.)

Strip some more weight out of it, trim, sound deadening, any unneeded electrics, 15inch wheels with nothing more than a 195 cross section tyre, either remove pas altogether or ideally fit hydraulic pas and tune the geometry to give give better steering feedback but sacrificing front grip, re tune so the rear is still in balance...and err, that'll probably do nicely.

The handling is spot on as it is from the factory.It can definitely handle the extra grunt forced induction proudly bring. However, it the existing 200hp never feels slow and is plenty fun for most of us. I still love mine to bits (apart from the ride around town which us horribly spine jarring)
I'm all for some form of Forced Induction - not so much for more power, but definitely to counteract that horrible flat spot it's got in the mid-range (admittedly a bit more oomph wouldn't go amiss ). Every time I've driven one I've really noticed it and it's put me right off getting one.
Why is it too expensive when an average family mid range hatch costs between £20 and £25k?. You can easily spec a Golf GT 1.4 to well over £30k.UK drivers have become lazy and want instant speed, usually provided by forced induction, subtle it isn't, but for up to 8 tenths driving is perfectly adequate. The GT86 needs to be worked at to get the speed, this is it's trump card. Those who have understood this, know what a great little car it is, those who have only had a short drive, most likely won't have. It can be a very quick car, but you have to do MUCH more than stamp your foot into the shagpile. I'm in the camp of it needing bigger wheels, keep the skinny rims for winter tyres. Saw one on the M1 recently, a white one with huge rims, looked the nuts. I'd like to see it be sold by Toyota dealers with a selection of 10 different rim styles, all looking good. Not sure it needs a facelift,the only thing I'd change is the wheels.

Bigger as in diameter or width ...or both? It's on 7x17s with 215s as standard - what size would you go for?
