Wow pity they cannot get my iphone 4 to work in a 2011 California.
Especially as they are now best friends with Apple, sharing board members etc.

FWIW I think adding upto date features to infotainment systems in older cars is a good idea, however this is a poor implementation.

Christ you lot don't half whinge. The Ferrari logo lets you know it's authentic and factory approved, so who cares? I dare say the solution for the 355 is pretty elegant, if anything

Unless you're parking on Pebble Beach, nobody's ever going to spot that.

Who listens to the radio in a Ferrari? The engine is the only music you need. My 328 had a DAB radio with MP3 input fitted by the previous owner but I can't hear it anyway.

A lot of manufacturers are still making cars with analogue radios, DAB is actually very difficult to implement in a vehicle especially one with non-standard construction like a Ferrari (hence the horrific windscreen antennae). I think that by the time the Auto makers move fully onto DAB, the world would have moved on to internet radio instead.
Very true. In 2/3 years time once 4G really gets rolled out be far easier to use a M2M sim in the car and receive unlimited radio stations over 4G.
I have difficulty getting 3G where I live (North side of Ipswich) so I can't see 4G getting there in the next 2-3 years.

My new car has DAB. According to WorldDMB "As of Q1 2014, 45.2% of new cars came with DAB digital radio as standard, up from 42.8% in Q4 2013." It's interesting to see how much of Europe has DAB already.
European countries have the sense to be using dab+, not the obsolete and incompatible dab from the 90's the BBC has been supporting.
Because they have not been supporting it for nearly as long as the BBC. Well done to the BBC for being ahead of the curve. Then behind because of being ahead.

hehe so I'll carry on listening to my 308's engine.

The only time I use the radio is if I'm twiddling about in the garage. If/when FM disappears, I'll dig out some C-90's smile

Can't believe everyone cares so much about the ICE when the carbon sills are the thing that looks the most stupid, and everyone will actually see those. I don't understand the current obsession with sticking carbon tat on cars, especially on a convertible like this. Bleurgh.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy this upgrade. Ferrari are offering the option - yeah so it looks a bit naff, a bit Ripspeed, if you don't like it, don't fking buy it then!!
In all my life I have never seen someone quite so angry that some people don't like a Ferrari optional extra.
I'll bet your wife is in for a hell of a night tonight.
Been hitting the wine early tonight, but this response really made me laugh out loud. Love it!

The Clarion unit is very good and packs in a lot of tech. I fitted one into my 612 together with front and rear cameras. It was the only decent single DIN unit available. There was also a good Kenwood single DIN unit, but you needed loads of extra boxes for features such as satnav or Bluetooth.

The "future proof" aspect is in regards to the digital transmission of the audio signal. Ferrari don't mention the term "future proof".

I don't know what all the fuss is about, having the screen out to use the Sat Nav is a better option than something just stuck on the windscreen that is forever falling off.... and at least you have the option of upgrading to a stereo unit that works once analogue get's switched off.

No one is forcing anyone to buy it, I really cant believe people are moaning about having a choice.....

Never mind the awful head unit, but £9,173 for carbon sills and kick plates??? Is it worth THAT much just to admire it when you open the door???

Another classic pistonheads getting paid to put something on the news page! I was under the impression when adverts are put to the public like this you have to be told it's an advert?

The whole article reads like an advertisement - I find it really hard to believe PH felt the need to spend a paragraph touting the abilities of a generic Sat nav?

I'm not trolling; this feels lifted from a marketers pamphlet. "In 10 seconds I got my Bluetooth connected and could listen to music..". Yes, we can all do that on our cheap eco boxes too!

I assume this stuff is paid for content by Ferrari?
Well PH ?

I agree, it would be interesting to hear the editorial reasoning behind running this story, I notice it isn't a regular PH writer and it does seem very advertorial, not really what is expected from PH.

The radio in my 550 is basically locked to Radio 4 while in the UK boxedin .... hehe To be fair, it is a V12 GT rather rather than a V8 Sports Car so I don't feel too bad, there's nothing quite like listening to some random German rock station while doing a GPS 170mph in complete comfort on ze autobahn smile If you open the windows and give it the beans it still sounds pretty good though at which point the radio is switched off smile When I had my Capristo-ed 355 I think I tried turning the radio on about twice then just gave up as I wouldn't have been able to hear it anyway.
