And they accuse the Ssangyong of being ugly. They must have had a hell of a big ugly stick when they dreamt that up.

The whole "I want a stiff, low SUV that drives like a sports car" argument is the most ridiculous, oxymoronic mindset I've ever encountered.
Thank you. I can't nod as quickly as I want to.

(Same could be said for the "I want a sportscar which is as comfy as a luxury sedan" mindset.)

I think you'll find that, like the stepped roof, that's a Discovery styling feature and predates the ML by about a decade

Stunning! The only thing I would say is, individually they all look great great so far (the full range of Range/Landrovers) but they are in danger of becoming the same as Audi/BMW with the russian doll syndrome. There needs to be a bit more differentiation between the ranges, certainly about the front end. Great though...

Looks great. The current Disco is a great car that doesn't sell as much as it should because of the way it looks. This solves that issue.

It also does away with the ladder chassis, thus distancing itself further from it's utilitarian roots.

Take note Porsche / Bentley, this is how to design a sophisticated looking off-roader. Shoehorning a saloon / sportscar aesthetic onto a 4x4 simply doesn't work.
Oh yes it does, I don't want to be able to drive up the south downs, I do want to be able to drive through a foot of water.

What I do want is a 4x4 that handles well and goes like stink, which is why we're buying a Porsche Macan.

Different strokes for different folks but the Porsche ethos suits our needs better, Jaguar et Landrover are on a nice roll so I think it'll be a great car when it comes out.
Be careful then, the Macan can only do 300mm wading (or 50mm more if you specced air sus), which is no better than a Ford Focus manages !!!!

If you want a car that wades buy it from a company with off road heritage!
Just about to spec it, 300mm should be fine, it has to be better than our current E Class lol

The numberplate is offset to one side. For no good reason.

'brand DNA ' or some such

for the Range rover it's the floating roof and the basic shape of front and rear light clusters

for the defender it;s the 'face'

for the discovery it's

asymetric boot lids, kicked up ioof line with taller / alpine light rear most windows ...

Brand DNA - 4WD, short overhangs, clamshell hood, breadth of capability, floating roofline, best 4x4xfar etc.. Universal across the whole Land Rover range hence brand DNA........

LR seem to want three 'families' of vehicles within th overall LR brand though

the 'luxurious' Range rover family evoque - RRS - FFRR

a 'family' (for want of a better term) the Discovery / LRnn ( currently FL2/LR3 and Discovery/LR4

and the utility / specialist 'proper' Landrover i.e. series -> defender bloodline

aspirated

There will be 3 groups. But all will be Land Rovers and all will share DNA.

Exciting times.

Yep, very much so. This will be twice as profitable as the current disco, noticably lighter (all alu) and has been designed to go up mountains as well as take the caravan... Sorry race trailer... And family to South of France. wink

The stepped roof line is too subtle, just a nod to the DNA, likewise the alpine windows. It makes it too squashed looking and too samey like the Explorer and it's ilk IMHO.

Happily those only seem to stick to LRs with live axles. Although D3/D4 is more than a match for D2 off road there is a fundamental disconnect between a £60k list price and bashing into trees on MT tyres.

The replacement for the Freelander 2 is due before the replacement for the Discovery 4: if this concept is representative of 'Freelander 3', and priced accordingly, then it will be very good indeed.
