I can tell you from cold, hard experience that even the 19" OEM Scorpion Zeroes
on a late L322 are marginal at best in typical UK off-road conditions (on my Corsa at least), and they are a fair bit more aggressive than any tyre the L405 comes with (e.g. Eagle F1 SUV, Scorpion Verde, CrossContact LX). Once the treads are full of mud, no amount of electronic aids are getting you out of the field.

At least with the old 19" tyre size you had options for something slightly less road-biased with the correct ratings - there is nothing suitable in any L405 size.

You only need to be at a summer event when it rains hard to see the problem, the tyres are too wide to dig down and find traction. It's the width of the tyres used to put the power down on roads that works against them. A shouty, aggressive salesman isn't even going to be of use. Maybe the nylon jacket could be put under the tyres though?

I've a photo somewhere of a Landy towing a new Rangie out at Goodwood somewhere.

It's just the compromise for having 500bhp so a fair one to make. smile

Forget courses especially laid out to avoid damaging the vehicles, I think all new Land Rovers should have to pass a durability test at the hands of A.J.M. here before they're allowed on sale. Any pieces of trim or those stupid rubber bits under the bumpers that get ripped-off should be replaced at the expense of whoever signed-off the design. wink

Once you've changed the tyres, the limit with some of the new vehicles is how much damage you're prepared to do to them.

Very happy to agree with you on that - rightly or wrongly, D3 always struck me as looking remarkably like a concept car itself: something to to with the straight lines and lack of clutter, I think.
