I've had mine for about four years now. A bit rough round the edges, a bit of a money pit, but with the windows down so you can hear the twin pipes do their thing it's a great place to be.
Here's the old Hartge one with around 170bhphartge1 by sm.

After many years of owning various BL products my Dad traded his 1750HLS Allegro in against this in the mid 80s:
BMW E21 316 VND521X by retromotoring, on Flickr
...and he's owned BMWs ever since. I can still vividly hear the sound of the heavy, solid door thunking closed and the smell of the interior on a hot day. First owner on the logbook was a Mr Eddy Shah, whenever I remember the car now I wonder where it was parked during the time of the pickets/riots in Warrington at his newspaper offices!
I also remember going up the narrow road to the top of Moel Famau in North Wales on a wet evening in it and a yellow VW Variant came downhill around a blind bend a bit too quick, braked, and slid into it. The poor 316 suffered a slightly bent bonnet and a broken indicator, whereas the whole front of the Type 3 was completely stoved in.
I'd love one, but I'm very happy with my E36.

Sm, I just did a record check on my t reg and your mates one they were both on the until 1992 , do you know if there was a recall or something on them in that year? Just wondering
I'd imagine the T-reg Hartge probably reached the end of its life perhaps.
It had a hard existence
