The original ones imported had intergalactic rear end gearing and the LS1 was very lazily tuned. Unusually for an NA car, a remap actually does unleash some power, taking it up towards the 370 area they should be.Later LS1 engined VXRs (all the body kit but no nostrils and single exit exhaust) were 384bhp with little more than a better tune and some short headers.

They're twitchy when sideways, and don't really have enough torque to kick themselves sideways on the throttle so you really have to commit to the slide. Which makes it even more tricky. Then you hit vtec and the dynamics change again.
Of all the RWD cars I've driven (and slid), the S2000 is probably the least happy.
As others have said, 350z if you want to slide, e46 M3 if you want to drift and track.

Of all the RWD cars I've driven (and slid), the S2000 is probably the least happy.
As others have said, 350z if you want to slide, e46 M3 if you want to drift and track.
The one you describe sounds like it had poor geo or mismatched tyre pressures.
If the car is set up properly they are great fun to throw around and are very well balanced.
I had some proper skin pan training in it, so perhaps that helped too.

Go drift something like an e46 M3, if you find the S2000 easy you'll probably be able to do complex geometric equations while sideways The one you describe sounds like it had poor geo or mismatched tyre pressures.

The Z is too heavy, and is fairly twitchy. Without traction control the back end will come out and it is fairly predictable. They're twitchy when sideways, and don't really have enough torque to kick themselves sideways on the throttle so you really have to commit to the slide. Which makes it even more tricky. RX8 supposed to be great but the reliability issues and driving dynamics would put me off.
You could get one hell of a Nissan S-chassis for that price... My 14a cost me £3.7k (which was too much) with 290bhp/300lb/ft. Now should be sitting at around 300/310.
A friend sold his not long ago which was 380bhp at the engine for less than £5k.
Reliable if you buy a good one, too.

Have a look in the 200SX/silvia section on the classifieds. There's a few on there and also the cars for sale section of SXOC.
That ones rather lairy looking but you could get a 14/14a with standard bodywork and over 300bhp.
Mine can kick out in the dry in 2nd (and 3rd in the right situation...) with a basic 1a map and around 300bhp
