Like the interior design. So this is an SL coupe right? A competitor to cars like the F-type coupe and Panamera?

The biggest issue that the AMG-GT will face is that older folks (i.e. most buyers) that have been saving away for their 911 will, well, still buy that 911 they've been wanting since they were a kid. Yes, some will change their mind, but for those who've wanted their 911 for 20 to 40 years, that's what they'll still end up buying.

It's like the F-Type. I like the F-Type. A lot of people do. Everyone is very happy that it exists. Yet it'll never come close to competing on volume any time in the next decade. After that? Perhaps. However the 911 has so much inertia in the minds of enthusiasts, which is why the F-Type and the AMG-GT are billed as "911 fighters", that it's difficult to overcome. I like cars that are different. However to truly fight the 911, you'd have to utterly humble it, not just be different than it.

It's no different than all the 3-series fighters. Nothing will likely ever truly "beat" the 3-series anytime soon, until a manufacturer finally skates to where the puck will be instead of where it currently is.

As much as I like Mercedes especially AMGs what really is the point of this car?

They already have the SLS, the new S class coupe, the E class coupe and the SL.

Mercedes must have one of the largest new car portfolios going. Cant wait to see it though.

They don't have the SLS; it will be no more by the time the GT is on sale.

Where are the NACA duct inspired bits in the second pic?
Exactly what I was wondering.
Tilt your heads 45 degrees to the left when looking at the first picture (looking in at the cabin from the right-hand door).

The gloss black centre console piece is the NACA duct, with air imaginably flowing from front to back of the car.

Quattroute, the well-known Italian auto magazine, released some interesting renderings with the upcoming Mercedes-Benz AMG GT. For those who still don’t know, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT is a rival to the Porsche 911 and will hit the dealerships in 2015, while the official debut will be made in mid-2014.

As expected, the vehicle will take some styling cues from the impressive SLS AMG but according to Mercedes-Benz design chief Gorden Wagener it will be the most beautiful car to wear the three-pointed star.

Under the hood, the new coupe will use a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that generates around 400 hp in the base version, 500 in the most powerful version and 570 hp on the Black Series version.

The new 4.0-liter V8 replaces the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 (found on the SLS AMG) and its successor, the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8. The new engine will use the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission.

Regarding the performances, we expect the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 4.0 seconds, while the top speed will certainly be over 300 km/h (186 mph). [source: Quattroroute]

If that's the cue, wouldn't the theoretical airflow be from back of the car to front?
